One of the standout debutants for the German national team during the international break was arguably Freiburg’s Philipp Treu.

Initially named in the first of two squads selected by Jürgen Klopp, the right-back was one of a handful of players given permission to remain at the camp when the majority of the first squad departed.

Ultimately, Treu played 90 minutes in three of Germany’s four games, and Klopp was very impressed with what he saw.

“We hadn’t planned for him to play three games,” Klopp admitted in an interview published by the German Football Association.

“You didn’t notice that a newcomer was playing. He did a great job. He was incredibly bold. He is very advanced in our attacking movements. Watching him was great fun.”

Treu will now be hoping to earn another call-up in November, when Klopp’s squad comes together again.
