"We could’ve conceded eight or nine" – Undav after brutal loss

Stuttgart were swept aside in a 5-1 loss to Bayern Munich.

Stuttgart had no answer for Bayern's dominant attack on Friday night. As striker Deniz Undav lamented afterwards, without five saves from their goalkeeper, it would have been even worse.

“Bayern just take their chances,” said Undav. “I think if Fabi Bredlow hadn’t had such a good day, we could’ve conceded eight or nine.”

Stuttgart started the match respectably, and even briefly pulled level in the second half. The ending was nothing short of a disaster, as Bayern scored four times, including a Josha Vagnoman own goal, to come away with a massive 5-1 win.

“They simply have that quality, they move ruthlessly, create spaces for others, and then exploit those opportunities,” said Undav. "And when you concede a goal, they just don't stop."

Stuttgart had some decent chances of their own, coming close to opening the scoring through Tiago Tomás. In total, the Swabians took eleven shots and caused problems for Bayern at times, but weren't clinical enough.

“We had four or five situations where we always made the wrong decision, and chances could have come from those situations," said Undav. "You have to exploit those situations against Bayern, otherwise you don't stand a chance.”

Undav and Stuttgart will look to pick up their first win next Friday when they take on 1. FC Köln.
