While Doug Ford hurled some low blows at Donald Trump, the American president went even lower by digging up the memory of the premier’s dead brother.

Premier Ford on Monday told Donald Trump to “kiss my ass” — and Trump responded with something more personal.

“Lots of “bluster” from Doug Ford, who is the Premier of the Canadian Province of Ontario, but who is better known as the less charismatic, intelligent, and overall unimpressive brother of the late, great, Rob Ford,” Trump posted to his Truth Social about an hour after Ford’s tirade hinting that Canada could hold back energy from the United States.

This, despite numerous moves by Ford in the trade war, including previous threats and even media ads aimed at Americans, marks the first time Trump has mentioned the premier by name.

Mentioning the late, legendary Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was a clear shot over the bow. Actually, Trump met the Ford brothers in or around 2011 when he was in Toronto building a skyscraper downtown.

Fighting words that sting from both leaders

Those were better times. These are dark times. It’s war time. A war on economics and a war of words. All sides are using fighting words that sting.

With these mean insults you might hear outside a bar and not from elected leaders, this has now become a dangerous game of chicken, where one side is the size of a motorcycle barreling down at an 18-wheel transport truck.
Neither side seems to want to put their transmissions into reverse.

At a news conference in Hamilton later Monday, the premier didn’t back down from his earlier comments on Bill Carroll’s show on Newstalk 1010, calling Trump a “loser” who would steal your “lunch money.” Trump pushed back with a promise he’s got his foot on the gas pedal.

Both sides should apply the brakes and get back to table

It would better if both pressed the brakes and got back to the negotiating table, but there seems to be no stopping this pending collision — and potential catastrophic outcomes.

“America has been carrying Canada for decades, but no longer!” wrote Trump. “The U.S.A. will always be far bigger, richer, and stronger than Canada. Without the United States, Canada couldn’t survive — It’s where they get all of their money and, because of their current bad leadership, primarily Governor Carney, and his flunky, Ford, they will not be allowed to keep taking advantage of the United States — their key to survival.”

This is getting ugly. And the people of both countries are who will pay the price for these schoolyard temper tantrums that are filled with mean rhetoric from both sides.

“Canada’s Unemployment Rate is now at 10%, and rapidly rising,” the Truth Social post said.

While Statistics Canada says it’s actually at 6.4%, Trump in his post did say Canadian “businesses are fleeing for the United States, and it’s all because of their failed policies, and inept leadership!.”

Posted Trump: “The days of ripping off our farmers, and other businesses, are over … “someone should get these clowns to “fall in line” or, the consequences for Canada will be far WORSE.”

Even with that threat, Ford does not seem to be lowering the temperature — and neither is Trump.
