Director Jon M. Chu’s adaptation of the first act of the 2003 stage musical Wicked was a global hit and produced a top-selling soundtrack featuring 11 songs from the film.

The album release became the most-streamed musical soundtrack on Amazon Music within 24 hours and debuted in the #2 position on the Billboard 200 chart.

With hit songs like Defying Gravity, featuring co-stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the music from the movie has lead reviewers to compare composer Stephen Schwartz to no less a figure than Stephen Sondheim. The energy and excitement of the cinematic cast’s performances can be credited to the recording being done live on set rather than in a recording studio.
