The Senators are currently in the midst of a three-game losing, sitting one point behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second Wild Card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

It has been an up-and-down season for the Sens who, after winning six consecutive games, have now lost five of their previous six contests.

Ottawa’s offence, which was supposed to be a strength coming into the season, has been limited to eight goals during that stretch.

Meanwhile, the Senators’ goaltending tandem of 22-year-old rookie Leevi Merilainen and Anton Forsberg have been forced into a difficult situation with starter Linus Ullmark dealing with a back injury that has kept him on the shelf since December 22nd.

The schedule has also not worked in the Senators’ favour as they were forced to play their last nine games on the road due to the World Junior Hockey Championship being held at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Luckily, the Sens will get a bit more home cooking for the rest of the month as seven of their final 12 games in January will be on home ice.
