Donald Trump cannot breathe a sigh of relief just yet, even though one of his most famous critics, Jimmy Kimmel, will be off the air for the next couple of months.

ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” has unveiled its summer guest-host lineup, which includes several prominent Trump critics.

Trump and his wife, Melania, have previously called for Kimmel to be fired after he made a controversial remark about the first lady days before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting.

Trump Critics Step In As Jimmy Kimmel Takes A Break

Donald Trump’s constant mocker, Jimmy Kimmel, is taking a voluntary summer break and will be off the air for the next couple of months. However, it does not appear that the president will be catching a break, as several of his public critics have been lined up to replace the comedian.

In a recent promo, ABC announced that known Trump critic Tiffany Haddish, as well as other celebrities like Colman Domingo, Ike Barinholtz, Anthony Anderson, and Jelly Roll, will step in at some point to guest-host the show.

The network also shared that Haddish “will lead things off, hosting the week of July 6,” before the other guest hosts take turns filling in for subsequent weeks. ABC’s announced summer lineup includes Haddish, Anderson, Barinholtz, Domingo, and Jelly Roll.

Another Trump detractor, Rosie O’Donnell, is also expected to make an appearance down the line, as Kimmel announced that he had asked her to be there “as a special treat for our commander-in-chief.” PEOPLE also reported that O’Donnell will guest host during Kimmel’s summer break.

“All I ask in return, Mr. President, is that you don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone, OK?” he added in his pointed jab at the president.

Rosie O’Donnell Brings Decades Of Trump Tension

O’Donnell’s inclusion is particularly telling, as she and Trump have been locked in a highly public, deeply personal feud for nearly two decades.

Last year, the billionaire politician threatened to revoke her U.S. citizenship after she relocated to Ireland following his election victory.

In a recent video shared to social media, the president used an AI-generated clip to depict O’Donnell and other known Trump critics lamenting their “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

The clip showed him as a doctor saying he has a “treatment plan” for his “patients,” comprising AI-generated versions of O’Donnell, Robert De Niro, Julia Roberts, Whoopi Goldberg, John Leguizamo, and Edward Norton.

“I have been suffering for over a decade, and after listening to Dr. Trump, I can see some results,” the deepfake O’Donnell said.

The fake Trump says in the video, “The treatment is simple: Turn off fake news, say your prayers, and if you ever feel anxious, just have a Diet Coke like me, and you are going to see a remarkable difference in your life.”

The handoff to Haddish and company comes at a particularly tense moment for the late-night host, after a series of clashes with the current administration.

In April, Trump and Melania publicly demanded that ABC and its parent company, Walt Disney, fire Kimmel after an ill-timed joke regarding the first lady just days before a gunman opened fire outside the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

“You have a glow like an expectant widow,” Kimmel said during the bit. CBS News reported that Trump called the joke a “call to violence,” while Melania described it as “hateful and violent rhetoric.”

The president took to Truth Social to slam it, calling it “really shocking,” while drawing a comparison with the shooting incident.

“I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said, but this is something far beyond the pale,” the president wrote in part. “Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC.”

Kimmel Denied The Joke Was A Call To Violence

However, Kimmel defended himself, saying the joke was about the couple’s age difference and was not “by any stretch of the definition a call to assassination,” per CBS News.

“I’ve been very vocal for many years, speaking out against gun violence, in particular,” he continued. “But I understand that the first lady had a stressful experience over the weekend… And also, I agree that hateful and violent rhetoric is something we should reject. I do. And I think a great place to start to dial that back would be to have a conversation with your husband about it.”

He went further to point out that Americans have a right to free speech and said he was “sorry” that they experienced the “traumatic and scary” shooting incident at the time.

“But do you want us to believe that a joke I made three days before this dinner had any effect on anything that happened (Saturday night)?” he asked.

Jimmy Kimmel’s Break Is Temporary

Meanwhile, Kimmel will return to hosting the famous late-night show once his break is over.

According to Deadline, summer breaks are not new for Kimmel, as he has been taking them since 2020. In the years since then, several guest hosts have stepped in to fill the role, except in 2023, when the writers’ strike hit Hollywood.

The celebrities who filled in for him last year included Anthony Anderson, Kumail Nanjiani, Nicole Byer, Chris Distefano, Fortune Feimster, Alan Cumming, and Jelly Roll.

Signing off on the June 18 episode of the show, the comedian told the audience he was “taking the next two months off – this time voluntarily.”

He was referencing the time he was suspended last year following controversial remarks made about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
