Two off-duty firefighters had already arrived at the scene and were assessing the injuries of the driver who had been trapped inside the truck. Specialized extrication tools were used to remove the roof of the truck, but the man’s legs were still pinned beneath the steering wheel. Hydraulic tools were then used to perform a steering wheel lift, and at 2:45 p.m. his seatbelt was cut to free him.
