Elden Ring’s expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, stands as one of the most challenging gaming experiences in recent memory. The crux of this difficulty is undoubtedly the final boss, Promised Consort Radahn, whose relentless combat has tested even the most seasoned players to their limits.

So wouldn’t it be funny if the recent patch that was supposed to fix him appears to have made the boss even more menacing? The nerfs, intended to balance the fight, seem to have introduced a bizarre bug where Radahn unexpectedly utilizes one of the Tarnished’s most effective strategies against players, almost like a nightmare brought to life.

Promised Consort Radahn Can Now Also Use the Mimic Tear, Spawning a Clone of Himself in Phase 2

The Promised Consort Radahn is notorious among players for its grueling difficulty, being well regarded as one of the most difficult fights to overcome in the game. His second phase is particularly infamous, marked by overwhelming AoE attacks and relentless aggression that make it a true test of endurance and skill.

That said, a few people in the game’s subreddit have shown the latest patch has introduced an unusual bug: during the second phase, a second Radahn sometimes appears to mess everything up.

What’s rather hilarious, too, is that this second Radahn materializes out of nowhere right in front of the Gates of Divinity, almost as though FromSoftware scripted this in just to mess with the already-deteriorating mental of the tormented players.

The silver lining is that, despite the chaos, this secondary Radahn is not very active, functioning more like a passive copy rather than the light-beam-throwing boss we know and hate. At least we don’t get to deal with two nukes at once with this bug.

Nonetheless, the sight of two Radahns on the battlefield creates a rather disorienting experience that feels like a darkly comedic twist on the Tarnished’s own strategy of pulling out the mimic tear as soon as passing through the fog gate.

Regardless, let’s hope that players who encountered the bug firsthand can recover from the trauma and that FromSoftware fixes the issue as soon as they can to avoid giving any more players such an unsavory surprise.

Promised Consort Radahn Feels Like the Mechanical Peak of Fromsoftware’s Boss Design

Most would agree that Promised Consort Radahn represents absolutely everything that FromSoftware could’ve done with the boss design philosophy they’ve pursued since the days of Bloodborne. It encapsulates years of iterative improvements in combat mechanics and challenge.

Not the boss alone, but Elden Ring itself seems to have pushed the limits of what games can accomplish mechanically, from combat, world design, and itemization to bosses.

While the sky is still the limit with narrative creativity, it seems that FromSoftware will have a difficult time topping this one. There simply doesn’t appear to be a way forward for the Soulsborne games from here on out—at least from a combat and boss design standpoint. However, there are still a lot of possibilities in the world and in terms of level design.

So, as we look ahead, it will be intriguing to see what sort of adventure FromSoftware decides to take on next. For all we know, the best is yet to come from Hidetaka Miyazaki and his talented team of developers.
