It may feel like the PlayStation 5 was released just last year, and talks of a PS5 Pro are a bit early, but it’s been nearly four years since its launch. While it wasn’t easily available much after its launch date, the console has become the reigning champ in the current market.
But it’s that time again when gamers start to wonder what Sony has planned next for its gaming system. Many are expecting early announcements of a sixth generation to drop soon, but there’s a step before we progress to this next generation.
PS5 Pro Rumors Abound, but Gamers Want Better Titles First
Advancing technology may be allowing companies to release consoles and systems that are far more powerful than previous generations. That’s why gaming companies try to have a line-up of games ready to launch with the console. The PlayStation 5 came with a similar tactic, and gamers hope the company does the same with the PS5 Pro.
Rumors of the next step in the PlayStation 5 journey have been further fueled by the company’s announcement of the console entering the second phase of its lifecycle. Many think the PS5 Pro announcement is imminent, and Sony might be targeting the holiday season to launch its advanced system, which was supposedly a very open secret at Gamescom 2024.
They better announce more games before hardware. I'm just saying.
— GamerBrain (@GamerBrain6) August 25, 2024But some gamers are focused on what the PS5 Pro brings to the table rather than the console itself. While it could theoretically run 4K at 60FPS, due to rumors of its components that even the PC market doesn’t have, it needs games that can take advantage of its power.
Sony has not announced any titles that could utilize such a system to its full potential, and some gamers want those titles to be in place before the company even thinks of releasing the PS5 Pro.
A worthy candidate to launch for this console would be the upcoming Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. The visuals in the first game were one of its hallmark achievements, and the second entry could go even further with the improved tech on the next console.
PlayStation 5 Pro Specs Could Bury Xbox Consoles
Going by console hardware, Sony has been leading the charge for a while now. Both Nintendo and Xbox are gunning for second place, but not many gamers are happy with the recent decisions taken by Microsoft. The company’s announcement of bringing cloud gaming to Amazon Fire devices has been widely mocked for cutting corners.
After Sony announced that its console was in the second half of its lifecycle, people expected Microsoft to take that as motivation to begin working on new hardware. However, the company has continued to make controversial decisions, like bringing exclusive titles such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to PlayStation.
Sony’s next console is likely going to further the gap between it and Microsoft, which could prove to be too large a space to recover. While Xbox can try and aim for a jump to the next generation and let Sony have this round, it remains to be seen if gamers think it’s a worthwhile investment if all exclusive titles will come to PlayStation eventually.
