The last decade was quite bleak for Superman, as his rendition on the big screen was a major departure from the inspiring friendly figure that fans have come to love over the years. Fortunately, James Gunn is set to take the character back to its roots with the new chapter of DC. But before we head towards a more cheerful future, Gunn and DC Studios are embracing the past with Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.

At a time when superhero productions were far from the norm, Christopher Reeve made people believe a man could fly, and even after decades, Superman remains the gold standard for superhero flicks. However, Reeve’s influence extends far beyond the realm of superheroes, as despite his accident leaving the actor paralyzed from the neck down, Reeve continued to be a vocal advocate for disability rights and care.

With the upcoming documentary set to celebrate the actor’s legacy, his son Matthew Reeve recalled his last interaction with the Superman star before his equestrian accident in a clip from the film.

We said goodbye, he gave this wave. That was the last time I saw him on his feet.

The documentary also involves intimate interviews with Reeve’s other two kids, Alexandra and Will Reeve, and the latter will also appear in the upcoming reiteration of Superman.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve isn’t the lone DC Studios entry that will celebrate the brilliance of the OG Superman, as James Gunn‘s upcoming flick is also set to pay homage to the industry icon. Gunn, who grew up watching 1978’s Superman, has involved Reeve’s son in his Superman.

Will Reeve, who works as a correspondent for ABC News, will make a brief cameo in the David Corenswet-led film as a reporter. But while he had only one line to deliver, Reeve recalled being “more nervous doing that than I am whenever I’m on TV for my normal job”.

I was actually more nervous doing that than I am whenever I’m on TV for my normal job because there was so many people around and I had to memorise one line, but still!

But despite being a tidbit nervous, things worked out perfectly, as he recalled that everyone on set was super friendly and nice to him and his family.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story will hit theatres on 21 and 25 September.
