Kathryn Hahn’s performance as Agatha Harkness has been iconic for longer than she has been at the forefront of a story. With the release of Agatha All Along, a show that fans basically forced Marvel to create, the audience could not be more excited to know more about the witch that turned Wanda Maximoff’s world topsy turvy. While the character has always been this iconic, the actress and her performance certainly added to her dramatic flare and showmanship.

During a recent interview for the promotion of the series, Hahn revealed the moment that she found to be most satisfying in her time playing the character. She also revealed that she was very glad about Harkness’s role in the MCU.

Kathryn Hahn’s Moment of Catharsis

WandaVision was all-in-all a great show. It showcased a brand new concept for Marvel in every way possible, being the first television series given the same treatment as an MCU film plus the style that it brought forth to its viewers. One of the most clever and beloved parts of the series was the deception when it came to who the antagonist was. For the majority of the series, audiences desperately tried to believe that Wanda was not in the wrong and that it was someone else pulling the strings.

When they thought that all hope was lost, it was revealed to them that it had been Agatha all along. The reveal was iconic in many ways; having introduced the concept of witches into the franchise and portraying them through the trusted hands of Kathryn Hahn.

During a recent interview with The New Yorker for her upcoming Disney+ series as the character, the actress was asked about her thoughts on the reveal, and what she had to say was certainly interesting.

Oh, my God. I definitely felt catharsis when we were doing that. The theme song. I mean, that was so fun. We just laughed the whole time.

She started by explaining that when the show revealed the fact that Agatha wasn’t just some nosy neighbor who was a victim of Maximoff’s actions but the villain herself, it was extremely satisfying for her. Going as far as to use the word ‘cathartic’, she explained that the theme song that came with the reveal, as well as the dramatics of it all, made the unveiling of the truth all of the more rewarding.

Kathryn Hahn Was Also Glad That She Was The Villain

Although knowing the fact that Wanda wasn’t completely evil was enough for fans to be happy about Agatha’s reveal., Kathryn Hahn revealed another reason why she adored being the antagonist. If the series had not chosen her to be the villain of the show, she would have simply ended up being an inconsequential character.

Being nothing more than a best friend and another victim of Wanda’s madness and loneliness, she would have been a waste of potential. Not only due to her position in the story but also because of the actress, who was playing her. Considering the fact that Hahn, the critically acclaimed, beloved, and respected actress was playing her, it is safe to assume that she was destined for great things.

And in my later forties, like, it’s so bananas to me. I certainly didn’t feel that power in myself when I was playing those best-friend parts. So, yeah, maybe.

The actress mentioned that she was very glad that the reveal happened and even impressed at the fact that she got such an important role in an MCU project when she was in her late forties. Having been reduced to the ‘quirky best friend’ several times in her career, she was glad that WandaVision did not follow a similar pattern.
