Faith Paige Goynes, 40, has been accused of killing Tomas Calavera Jr., after the 30-year-old’s body was found in a closet during a welfare check on Dec. 23, KSAT reported.

Deputies with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a burning vehicle in Bexar County that same day, according to the outlet.

One witness told police that a woman, later identified as Goynes, was allegedly seen walking away from the fiery truck.

She had suffered severe burns and had Calavera’s identification on her when cops detained her, according to the arrest affidavit.

Police determined the burning vehicle belonged to the victim, Goynes’ common-law husband.

The welfare check that led to the discovery of Calavera’s body was prompted by the victim’s father, who initially went to his son’s home in Bexar County to locate him but was unsuccessful, according to the arrest records.

Calhoun County officials reached out to the Bandera County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the check.

Goynes allegedly confessed to police that she had shot Calavera before burning his truck, the affidavit read.

She was charged with murder and arson causing serious bodily injury or death in the death of her husband.

The investigation is ongoing by the sheriff’s offices of Calhoun County, Bexar County and Bandera County as well as the Texas State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Bond for Goynes has not yet been set.
