Canstar Travel Insurance analyzed over 125,000 passenger reviews to rank the top 100 airlines for their dining sky-high dining experiences, and found Aegean Airlines scored the highest with passengers.

With a top score of 7.82 out of 10, the Athens-based airline “impressed with fresh, regionally-inspired dishes and authentic Greek hospitality,” Canstar Travel Insurance said.

It said Aegean Airlines’ menu is inspired by the Greek concept of “filema,” which it said means “love and kindness through food.”

Passengers in all cabin classes enjoy authentic Greek flavours, while business-class travellers are served meals crafted by top Greek chefs and sommeliers, Canstar Travel Insurance said.

The study noted that Asian carriers dominated the rankings, claiming seven of the top 10 spots, with South Korea and Japan the only countries with more than one airline earning a top 10 spot.

Those Asian airlines are South Korea’s Asiana (3rd) and Korean Air (6th), and Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) (7th) and Japan Airlines (8th).

How did Canadian airlines fare?

It might serve as no surprise to some travellers that Canadian airlines ranked pretty far down the list.

Air Canada took the 83rd spot for in-flight dining, though it did rank higher in another list from Canstar that ranked the best first-class food, earning the 35th spot out of 68 airlines on that list.

WestJet scored even lower for overall dining experience, ranking 92nd on the list.
