Spice Girls fans livid over group teasing major announcement only to drop new merch: ‘Are you kidding me?’

Spice Girls fans are up in arms over the girl group’s social media antics.

Fans were severely disappointed after the iconic pop outfit teased a major announcement on Wednesday, noting in an Instagram post that something was coming “10.09.2026 | 2pm BST.”

The new news turned out to be the Spice Girls releasing a new compilation box set called “The Singles Collection” on Nov. 6.

“For the first time ever, they’re all together in THE SINGLES COLLECTION 💖,’ the group posted on Instagram Thursday. “✨ 14-disc colour vinyl + CD box sets ✨ Original artwork + B-sides ✨ Previously unreleased demos.”

Fans were definitely not amused that the revelation turned out to be new merch and not a reunion of the five members — Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Melanie “Mel B” Brown (Scary Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) and Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm (Sporty Spice).

One comment reads, “At this point, the teasing feels abusive. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!?? Bringing this up in therapy.”

One fan wrote in disbelief, “@spicegirls this announcement went viral – this cannot just be for a CD box set & unreleased music?! 😅.”

“This meeting could have been an email,” another fan cracked.

More fans joked about preparing to spend a lot of money, only to be disappointed.

A hilarious comment reads “*puts credit card back in purse*,” while another fan noted, “Negotiating with my husband on my price cap for Spice Girls tickets today was for NOTHING.”

One disgruntled fan wrote, “This was it? I literally was looking up part time jobs to buy tickets for tour 😆🥺.”

A number of fans expressed their major disappointment over the Spice Girls not embarking on a world tour — or even a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, as some had predicted.

“I’ll tell you what I want! What I really really want…..A TOUR WITH ALL 5!!!” a comment reads, referencing the lyrics to the group’s debut 1996 single, “Wannabe.”

Fans were especially hopeful for a tour since the group’s debut 1996 hit, “Wannabe,” celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. The fivesome is pictured above. Spice Girls/Instagram

“What I really really want is a world tour zigazigah,” another chimed in.

The Sun reported in March that the Spice Girls canceled a special series of performances they were planning for the 30th anniversary of the release of “Wannabe,” after they “failed to come to an agreement.”

Though Chisholm confirmed there was no reunion that same month, she didn’t rule the possibility of one in the future.

“We are communicating all the time, we want to do something,” she insisted during her appearance on “The Smallzy Show.”

She added, “Who knows when? But I still feel very optimistic, and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future.”

Brown also exclusively told Page Six later that month that she was definitely open to going on tour again with the band.

“I’m always the one going, ‘Yes, we’re going on tour,’” she said. “I would love to go on tour. I would love to do music, but it isn’t happening.”

“I’m always ready to go on tour with the Spice Girls,” she continued. “I wouldn’t be sitting here if it weren’t for my other four girls, if I weren’t a part of that kind of girl power crazy roller coaster ride.”
