'Sister Wives' Meri Brown Closed Out 2024 With Third Loan On Her Bed and Breakfast Inn

Meri Brown goes deeper into the loan pond with a $485,000 third loan on her Utah bed-and-breakfast, Lizzie's Heritage Inn, which remains closed for renovations. 

This comes after a year of personal highs and lows for the "Sister Wives" star, who re-entered the dating scene with a new mindset following the abrupt end of a romance earlier in 2024. 

Meri Brown opened the inn in 2017 and named it Lizzie as a tribute to her grandmother.

Meri is betting big on her bed-and-breakfast's future with a new mortgage, signaling her continued investment in the property. In late December 2024, the 53-year-old secured a third loan of $485,000 for Lizzie's Heritage Inn, which she had closed earlier in the year for renovations.

This latest mortgage brings her total loan amount on the property to over $1.1 million. In a Deed of Trust obtained by The U.S. Sun, Meri is identified as the borrower, while Newrez LLC is listed as the lender for the loan, dated December 23, 2024. 

The document outlines her legal obligation to repay the debt in monthly installments with full payment due by January 1, 2055.

Meri's move is not strange, seeing as homeowners reportedly often take out additional mortgages to finance major renovations, which tend to offer more favorable terms than personal loans. 

Meri decided to secure the third loan after temporarily closing her beloved bed-and-breakfast in August 2024 for renovations.

The 'Sister Wives' Star Took Out Two Previous Loans 

The mother-of-one's Utah bed-and-breakfast has been a labor of love—and substantial financial investment. According to real estate records, Meri initially took out a $346,500 mortgage in October 2017 to purchase the family property.

By April 2018, she secured an additional $308,000 through a second home rider, a loan type with strict conditions. Court documents stipulated that the property could only be used as a personal retreat, barring rentals or shared ownership arrangements. The document further stated:

At the time, Meri lived in Flagstaff, Arizona, with then-husband Kody Brown and her former sister wives, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn. 

How Meri Runs Lizzie's Heritage Inn Without Family's Help

When Meri purchased her beloved Lizzie's Heritage Inn, she first faced resistance from her polygamous family. According to The U.S. Sun, Meri had asked her family for a $40,000 loan to help with the down payment, offering to cover the remaining $40,000 herself.

While her former sister wives—Janelle, Christine, and Robyn—supported the idea, Kody was reportedly skeptical, citing concerns that bed-and-breakfasts are "not big moneymakers." 

He even questioned whether he and the other wives would have a say in running the business, but Meri was firm, saying, "No, not at all."

Kody ultimately refused to contribute, but Meri did not let that stop her. She used earnings from her clothing business, LuLaRoe, to fund the down payment and opened the inn in December 2017.

The Businesswoman Is Open To Revamping Her Love Life

Meri is staying positive about her future—whether it is for her bed-and-breakfast or finding a meaningful relationship. The Blast reported that the star embraced a fresh dating approach after a short-lived romance earlier in 2024. 

The reality TV star explained that her brief exclusive relationship ended because she realized they were not compatible. Despite the setback, Meri remained hopeful, stating she is now dating "non-exclusively" and taking things one step at a time.

She elaborated on her new dating philosophy: "You date non-exclusively, and then you're like, 'Okay, I can focus on this person. Let's be exclusive. And then, see if it works into something.'"

Meri's optimistic approach comes after her separation from Kody in 2023 after being married for over three decades.

Meri might be expanding her dating horizons, but it has a twist. The star, who relocated to Utah, revealed that she primarily meets new people through dating sites, though she also finds connections through mutual acquaintances.

In a candid conversation, Meri explained that dating apps are an inevitable part of modern life, especially in a small town like hers. However, for her, dating is more than just about finding a partner; it's a journey of self-discovery.

"I'm learning about myself. I'm learning about other people. I am learning to trust myself and be like, 'Hmm, I'm getting a funny vibe. This person's just not for me," Meri shared.She added that recognizing when someone is not right for her is an integral part of the process.
