Urs Fischer will have another valuable option to call upon in attack if Silas continues to make steady progress in his recovery.

FSV Mainz 05 have officially confirmed that Silas Katompa Mvumpa is back in action and nearing a full return to fitness.

The 28-year-old initially fractured his left tibia and fibula in the Conference League against last-16 side SK Sigma Olomouc last March.

An unfortunate collision with an opposing player ultimately sidelined the forward for the best part of seven months until now.

However, the DR Congo star was pictured taking part in segments of team training as Mainz prepare for FC Schalke 04 next Saturday.

When fully fit, Silas likely faces a tricky battle for game time given both Phillip Tietz and Sheraldo Becker are in flying form.
