Cops say incident happened around noon in parking lot at Providence Healthcare long-term care facility

A married couple — a man and a woman in their 70s — is dead following a noon-hour shooting on Monday in the parking lot of a Scarborough seniors hospital and long-term care facility near Warden Ave. and St. Clair Ave. E.

The incident happened outside Providence Healthcare with officers recovering a firearm at the scene.

Toronto Police said they received reports at about 12:30 p.m. of two people located with gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving measures, they were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The female was the patient at the hospital,” said Toronto Police Insp. Scott Shutt at a news conference near the scene on Monday afternoon.

“Obviously, it’s a very traumatic incident for the family members involved, but also the sheer amount of patients that come through the hospital here, it would be a huge concern for people; we understand that.”

The homicide unit was investigating, although Shutt said there were “no outstanding suspects and no threat to public safety.” The couple’s next of kin had yet to be notified, as of Monday afternoon.

“We understand that incidents like this can cause great concern to the community,” said Shutt. “If anyone has any information, no matter how small it may seem, please reach out to us.”

Teen charged after 2 people shot in Hamilton

Police have charged an 18-year-old Hamilton man with attempted murder following a targeted shooting that left two people injured.

Hamilton Police said that on Friday at about 2:15 p.m. they responded to the King St. E.-Lawrence Rd. area following reports of a shooting.

Patrol officers located and provided help to two victims suffering from gunshot wounds and both were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The shooting response team believes the shooting was targeted and the homicide unit is assisting with the investigation.

Darien Wilson was charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent to injure, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a restricted loaded firearm, possession of a restricted firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized and two counts of aggravated assault.

A firearm was also recovered.

Suspect sought for St. Catharines robbery

Niagara Regional Police are looking for a robbery suspect following a commercial robbery on Thursday in St. Catharines.

Cops responded to a business on Bunting Rd. for a robbery that had just occurred after a knife-wielding male entered the store, demanded money and fled after taking a small quantity of cash. He was last seen fleeing eastbound on Greenwood Ave.

The suspect is male and about 20 years old with dark skin. He was wearing a beige hooded sweatshirt, black balaclava, grey sweatpants, black running shoes and a grey pouch.

Cops probe shooting in Etobicoke

Toronto Police are requesting the public’s help in identifying a suspect accused of discharging a firearm.

On Aug. 5 at about 8:10 p.m., two groups travelling in separate vehicles began shooting at each other in the Castlebar Rd.-Uno Dr. area before someone exited the rear passenger side of one of the vehicles, ran toward the other vehicle and discharged a firearm.

Cops said the suspect got back into his vehicle with both fleeing from the area at a high rate of speed.

The suspect has a medium build and brown hair and was wearing a green jacket, grey pants and white shoes. He was also travelling in a grey SUV.
