Second person sought in kidnapping of Richmond Hill man; Mississauga murder suspect nabbed

Police are seeking an additional suspect they say was involved in the kidnapping of a Richmond Hill man earlier this month.

York Regional Police said the victim was reported missing on July 7 from his business in the area of Denison St. and Woodbine Ave. in Markham.

Based on information gathered at the scene, police said officers determined the victim had been kidnapped and the homicide unit was notified.

Two days later, investigators located the kidnapping victim, cops said. One male suspect was identified and charged while a female suspect is now wanted.

The suspects

The first suspect identified was Jianwei “John” Fan, 44, of Toronto, who is wanted for conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

The second suspect, Ying “Amy” Tang, 53, of Markham, is now wanted for kidnapping with a firearm and forcible confinement.

Police said investigators have been unable to locate both suspects and warrants have been issued for their arrest.

“Both Fan and Tang are encouraged to seek legal advice and turn themselves in,” police said in a statement. “Investigators are reminding the public that anyone providing assistance to either suspect may be subject to criminal charges.”

Mississauga murder suspect nabbed

Peel Regional Police say they have nabbed a second suspect for the murder of a man in Mississauga that dates back three years.

Police said, on July 9, 2023, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Gurvinder Nath, 24, of Brampton, was working as a food delivery driver near Britannia and Creditview Rds. when he was attacked and robbed of his vehicle. The suspects fled in his vehicle.

Nath was transported to a trauma centre where he later died of his injuries, police said.

Jazaine Kerr, 23, of Mississauga, was arrested on Feb. 15, 2024, and charged with second degree murder and possession of a prohibited firearm.

Investigators later identified a second suspect and obtained a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.

Devaunte Thompson, 26, of Caledon, was arrested in Toronto on July 16 and charged with second-degree murder. He is currently in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice.

Explosive situation avoided

Hamilton Police nabbed two suspects and a Molotov cocktail following an investigation into a stolen vehicle.

On July 23 at approximately 11:55 p.m., police said officers were patrolling the area of Upper Horning Rd. when a stolen black Honda Civic was spotted.

According to police, a traffic stop was attempted, but the two suspects took off in the Honda, later striking a marked police car.

Police say both occupants exited the vehicle and then fled on foot. Both were later taken into custody. One of the males suffered an injury.

During the search of the Honda, cops said officers located a Molotov cocktail. The device was seized and the vehicle was towed for further examination.

A 17-year-old male from York and a 22-year-old male from Brampton have been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, flight from a police officer, possession of incendiary material, and possession contrary to order.

Police did not release the name or photo of the 22-year-old suspect.

Non-threatening stab wound

A male suspect is at large following an altercation at a Hamilton train station that left one person with a stab wound.

Hamilton Police said, on Thursday at approximately 4:50 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance at West Harbour GO Station. Initial reports indicated that a male had been involved in a physical altercation and was bleeding, cops said.

Officers located the victim, a 46-year-old man from Beaverton, and he was transported to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

According to police, the altercation began after the suspect started going through the victim’s belongings and ignored repeated requests to leave. Cops allege the suspect then assaulted the victim while armed with an edged weapon.

The suspect is described as approximately 30 years old, light-skinned, 5-foot-9 with a dark beard and a balding hairline. He was seen wearing a green tank top, light-coloured shorts, dark sunglasses, and white Puma shoes.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information that may assist with the investigation to contact the on-duty Division 10 Staff Sergeant at 905-546-4725.

Historic sexual assualt

The York Regional Police Special Victims Unit has charged a man in connection with a sexual assault case that dates back several years.

Police said the victim came forward on July 6 and reported she had been in a sexual relationship with the suspect that began in 2022. She was 15 years old at the time.

Cops say the suspect is a music teacher and met the victim through a music studio in Markham. Investigators believe the suspect may also teach music elsewhere in the Greater Toronto Area.

On Thursday, Wylie Zi Hin Lam, 33, of Toronto, was charged with sexual interference, sexual exploitation and sexual assault.

Investigators released the suspect’s photo as they believe there may be additional victims, police said, adding anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.

Man accused of making 3D guns

A Stouffville man is wanted by police after being accused of making 3D guns.

York Regional Police said its Guns, Gangs and Drug Enforcement Unit are appealing for public assistance to locate the suspect.

Police said a firearms trafficking investigation began Monday after cops received information regarding the alleged manufacturing of 3D-printed firearms at a residence in Whitchurch-Stouffville.

Officers executed a search warrant and seized a quantity of items connected to the manufacturing of 3D-printed firearms, including parts for several handguns rifles, ammunition, and prohibited devices, cops said.

Steen Eliasen, 30, of Stouffville, is wanted for numerous charges, including weapons trafficking, possession for the purpose of weapons trafficking, two counts of tampering with a serial number, two counts of possession of a prohibited firearm with registration certificate, three counts of possession of a prohibited weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized, two counts of careless storage of a firearm, and altering a cartridge magazine.

Investigators have been unable to locate him and a warrant has been issued for his arrest, police said.

If seen, investigators cautioned the public not to approach him. Anyone who knows his whereabouts, or has information related to this investigation, is asked to contact police immediately.

“Eliasen is encouraged to seek legal advice and turn himself in,” police said in a statement. “Investigators are reminding the public that anyone providing assistance to him may be subject to criminal charges.”
