Samsung has moved to dismiss a $15 million lawsuit filed by Dua Lipa over the use of her photo on its television packaging, according to a court filing submitted last week.

The company filed the request on Thursday, September 10, arguing that nothing on the packaging suggested the singer endorsed the television sets. Lipa sued in May, claiming Samsung used her image without paying her or seeking her permission.

The pop star had not responded to the new filing as of Monday, and no ruling has been made.

Lipa’s legal battle with Samsung took a new turn on Thursday when the conglomerate’s lawyers filed a motion to dismiss her claim.

The singer challenged product packaging that featured her photo and sued the company in a California district court in May after several cease-and-desist notices allegedly went unanswered.

However, Samsung’s lawyers claimed in their recent filing that there was “nothing suggesting plaintiff endorses the televisions.”

“The images merely depict the televisions’ on-screen interface, illustrating the applications and an example of content available on the TV,” the filing also stated.

The product packaging in question first appeared in 2025 on some of the televisions Samsung sold at the time.

Lipa’s face appeared on a TV mockup alongside promotional icons for the Xite Hits music channel, MLB, Fox Sports, and the crime series The First 48.

Defending its use of the image, Samsung said it had received “explicit assurance” from a “content partner” that it could use the material on products such as its retail boxes.

“Ms. Lipa’s image was used in 2025 to reflect the content of our third-party partners that is available on Samsung TVs and was originally provided by a content partner for our free streaming service Samsung TV Plus,” the company said at the time.

Dua Lipa Accused Samsung Of Using Her Image Without Permission

In her initial lawsuit, Lipa claimed she never authorized the use of her image in that way.

Lipa’s “face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and as to which she had no say, control, or input whatsoever,” the filing stated. “Ms. Lipa did not allow and would not have allowed this use.”

The document also accused the company of giving a “dismissive and callous” refusal when asked to stop using the image. Elsewhere in the filing, Lipa requested $15 million in damages and cited copyright infringement.

Online fans shared differing opinions about the case, with some claiming that Lipa’s image had influenced their decision to buy a television.

“Dua Lipa deserves compensation. The only reason I bought my Samsung TV back in 2019 was this woman’s face,” one fan wrote.

“I wasn’t even planning on buying a TV, but I saw the box so I decided to get it,” another individual commented.

However, a third user disagreed, writing, “I do not believe a single person exists that chose to buy that TV because the ad on display had Dua Lipa’s face lol.”

Dua Lipa Previously Defeated A Levitating Copyright Lawsuit

Lipa recently found herself on the other side of a copyright dispute, which ultimately ended in her favor.

Songwriters L. Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer accused her of plagiarizing their 1979 disco track “Wiggle and Giggle All Night” and the 1980 song “Don Diablo” while creating her hit single “Levitating.”

However, in March 2025, U.S. District Judge Katherine Polk Failla ended the three-year legal battle, ruling that the cited tracks and Lipa’s song shared only “generic similarities.”

The judge also found that the alleged similarities involved musical elements not protected by copyright, ultimately undermining the claims against Lipa.
