Real Madrid transfer news: Barcelona president slams Mbappe signing

Kylian Mbappe has yet to triumph a large squad trophy with Real Madrid since arriving successful 2024. For Barcelona president Joan Laporta, that was predictable.

Signing the Frenchman for free, with his Paris Saint-Germain declaration expiring, was a immense coup for the Spanish club, arsenic Mbappe’s marketplace value, past and now, is astir £170m (€200m). On an idiosyncratic level, his accomplishment has been a occurrence for Real Madrid, with the guardant uncovering the nett 97 times successful 114 games.

Collectively, though, it has not been the aforesaid for 2 years, with Real Madrid failing to triumph a azygous squad trophy with the French planetary successful their ranks.

Real Madrid’s transportation argumentation questioned implicit Mbappe

In a agelong interrogation with L’Equipe, Barcelona president Joan Laporta did not hesitate to revisit comments dating backmost to 2024. The 64-year-old had said astatine the clip that Real Madrid would person dressing-room problems by signing Mbappe:

‘Yes, I said it. More than 1 cockerel successful the aforesaid henhouse cannot work, ever. The precedence successful shot is the squad and squad spirit. If you bash not person that, the task does not work.’

He past utilized his ain club, the reigning two-time La Liga champions, arsenic an example:

‘It is 1 of Barcelona’s strengths: having large talents, players from La Masia, players from different footballing cultures, and managing to physique a squad with a synergy that works.'

'Thanks to a masterful manager (Hansi Flick) and besides a sporting manager (Deco) who works to amended this team. They preferred individuals, large signings. I judge Real Madrid person mislaid credibility and they are trying by each means to warrant each this by lying astir the Negreira case, due to the fact that they person not won thing for 2 years. We are winning and we are candidates to triumph everything.’

Is Mbappe the occupation astatine Real Madrid?

Extremely prolific with the Spanish club, tin the France skipper truly beryllium considered Real Madrid’s biggest concern?

Probably not. A team’s apical scorer is ne'er its fig 1 problem, and Mbappe does what is asked of him, and with zeal, scoring 11 goals successful 11 games this season. The occupation lies elsewhere, notably with Vinicius Jr.

The 26-year-old Brazilian has been unrecognisable since the commencement of the season, with 1 extremity and 3 assists successful 10 games. Real Madrid’s fig 1 attacking menace earlier 2024, the guardant has slipped down Mbappe, some connected the transportation and symbolically.

Recently handed a caller declaration until June 2032, Vinicius Jr was adjacent near connected the seat against Villarreal (1-0), the eventual motion of his decline. The near winger appears to beryllium struggling with Mbappe’s beingness successful the team, which yet affects results, conscionable arsenic the Barcelona president had predicted.

And with Florentino Perez having spent £119m (€140m) connected different attacker, Yan Diomande, this summer, questions tin beryllium asked astir Real Madrid’s transportation policy.

Since 2024 and the Mbappe signing, the Spanish nine look to beryllium acting against their ain sporting interests successful the market, not recruiting wherever their needs lie, notably successful midfield, and giving a 2nd accidental to players successful decline, specified arsenic Vinicius Jr. But is that truly astonishing for the nine that ushered successful the Galacticos epoch successful the 2000s, with plentifulness of stars but fewer trophies?
