We love discovering new-to-us Canadian brands.

Recently, we were introduced to Deux Lions, a jewelry line created by siblings Charlotte Ella and Alexandre Piché. The Montreal-based jewelry brand offers an impressive selection of stylish, locally made pieces in materials ranging from gold-vermeil and sterling silver, to solid gold.

We caught up with founder and designer  Ella to learn more.

Q: For those who aren’t familiar, what is Deux Lions?

A: Deux Lions is a handcrafted luxury jewelry brand founded by a brother-sister duo in Montreal. We work with local artisans to ensure sustainable and high quality standards of production and quality of materials. This also allows us to offer customizable options to our beloved clients such as bridal work and engagement rings, reworking heirloom jewelry, or bringing custom projects to life.

Deux Lions Jewelry is luxury redefined. Our luxury is: conscientious, responsible, inclusive, stylish, qualitative and enduring.

Q: What makes it unique? 

A: We take pride in challenging conventional codes of luxury, and making jewelry that redefines luxury from vanity to impact. For us, it’s about allowing our creations to uplift and better the world. We regularly craft collections that give back to causes we care about: women’s rights, sustainability, maintaining wild habitats, etc. We also work hard to create heirloom worthy jewelry that our customers can keep for a lifetime.

As we also love customizing pieces to make them special and heartfelt for our customers, we offer complimentary engravings on many jewelry pieces.

Q: Who is your target customer?

A: Jewelry is the corner of the fashion world that feels the most inclusive to us, as it is easily customizable for different shapes and sizes. We truly pride ourselves in offering this luxury to everyone, regardless of shape, size, or age. This is about the optimism of helping everyone feel beautiful and carefully crafting meaningful pieces that feel special to them. That said, our customers often take pride in being aware, informed, and connected to the evolving world around them.

Q: Is there a ‘hero’ design in the collection?

A: Our zodiac collection is a real classic. We collaborated with a local female artist who drew all of the signs portraying them through the female form. This timeless pendant is not only important to us because it represents the importance of honouring femininity, but it also gives us an opportunity to give back concretely. Twenty per cent of our zodiac collection goes to the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal.

Our charm collection is also a winner, as we collected 2,000-year-old Roman coins and casted them in wax, then, shaving off the male portraits and replacing them with female leaders that inspired us and whom we felt worthy of having their own coin. Such as Frida Kahlo, Angela Davis, Billie Holiday, Joan of Arc, etc.

Lastly, specifically for men, we love our timeless classics, such as the Cuban chain in sterling silver or gold vermeil. The only accessory he needs. Well, that and a signet ring perhaps.

Q: What is the price range for your pieces?

A: Our average piece retails for approximately $250, but there is a vast range of metals we work with. Hence, this can vary significantly. Our sterling silver and gold vermeil collections offer incredible value for the quality, while our solid gold pieces are more expensive but encapsulate the ultimate luxury and can be found in famed retailers such as Bergdorf Goodman.

We have also crafted custom engagement rings with natural stones or lab diamonds, ranging from $1,000-$10,000, depending on people’s aspirations. We love working with our customers, to deliver the most memorable piece within their budget. For us this is about helping them bring their dreams to life.

Additionally, we love hosting our clients in person at our Montreal showroom, where you can visit us for a personalized shopping appointment or customized project. Many bridal appointments are made with us here, but we are also available for virtual appointments. … Although our production and headquarters will always remain proudly Canadian, we’re also investing in expanding our presence in Los Angeles to better service our West Coast customers.
