Princess Diana’s 30th death anniversary seems to be creating another difficult chapter for her sons.

Prince William has reportedly chosen to stay away from a project that could put him and Prince Harry in direct competition. The Prince of Wales has declined several documentary offers ahead of August 2027, while Harry has discussed a possible film.

Prince William was only 15 when Diana died in a car crash in Paris in 1997. With her 30th anniversary approaching, he has reportedly declined several offers to make or appear in documentary tributes about his mother.

The big decision reportedly aims to avoid further conflict with his brother Harry. Royal editor Roya Nikkhah appeared in the video posted on X, explaining that William has declined offers, but sources close to Harry confirm he has discussed “a number of possible projects.” 

William is expected to mark the anniversary privately rather than publicly, according to the video discussion. The Times noted that the brothers risk being “pitted against each other” over how they commemorate their mother.

The clip opened by asking whether Diana’s 30th anniversary could further divide William and Harry. It showed archival footage of Diana with her young sons alongside more recent footage of William with Catherine and their children.

One commenter argued that avoiding a film would not remove the conflict. The commenter asked whether “silence is really the same as peace.” Another commenter pointed out that William and Harry already made “Diana, Our Mother” together in 2017.

They noted that William had previously said the documentary would be his “1st & last.” Other commenters rejected the idea that Harry influenced William’s decision. One argued that William would only consider his mother when deciding whether to make a documentary.

Unlike William, Harry Seems All In On A Princess Diana Documentary For 2027

Harry was reportedly considering the documentary for August 2027. The Blast also noted that he and William had previously appeared together in the 2017 documentary “Diana, Our Mother.” That earlier project let the brothers speak publicly about their memories of Diana. 

The possible project also comes alongside Spencer’s book, “Swan Song: Diana.” The book focuses on Diana’s upbringing and the week leading up to her death, including allegations concerning her treatment by then-Prince Charles. Diana died on August 31, 1997, after a car accident during a high-speed car chase.

Harry has continued speaking about the importance of honoring Diana. In a 2022 interview, he said, “I certainly hope and believe everything I do makes her proud.”

He also recalled having only 12 years with his mother and praised the impact she made through helping people. Harry said he honors her “in everything I do” and described himself as “my mother’s son.”

The tension between the brothers reportedly extends beyond Diana’s anniversary plans. Prince William is also accused of urging King Charles to take a firmer approach toward Harry following the Duke’s return to Britain.

A source claimed William has been “in his father’s ear non-stop.” The insider alleged that the Prince of Wales wants Charles to maintain firm royal boundaries rather than relax protocols for his younger son.

The Blast reported that the allegation came from a source cited by “Closer.” The source claimed William was encouraging Charles to “toughen up on Harry,” while also saying the King did not want to push his younger son away. The same insider alleged that Charles was frustrated because Harry gave him little notice about his return.

The source described a “steady stream of complaints” and “plenty of demands” from the Sussex camp. Harry and Meghan have not publicly responded to those characterizations.

Harry has instead spoken positively about his family’s new life in Britain, describing their first weeks as “eventful” while saying they were happy and settling into a new routine.

Kate is reportedly concerned that William’s anger toward Harry could pull the couple deeper into the family dispute. An insider claimed she wants them focused on their royal responsibilities instead of becoming consumed by the conflict.

The Princess of Wales has reportedly encouraged William to follow Charles’ more conciliatory approach. The source claimed she believes they need to concentrate on “protecting the Crown” and remaining “dignified representatives.”

The Blast reported that the allegation came from an unnamed insider cited by Woman’s Day Australia. The source claimed Kate was “trying to do everything she can to help William calm down” as tensions involving Harry continued.

The insider also alleged that William is under pressure over Charles, the monarchy and his younger brother. The source claimed he is worried about what Harry could do next while remaining “firmly on his father’s side.” Spencer’s book has reportedly added another layer to the tension.
