The latest report on the young royals comes as the Sussexes settle back into life in Britain with their children, amid a persisting rift with senior members of the monarchy.

For Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, the situation means their connection to the wider royal family is being shaped by an adult issue that has remained unresolved for years.

According to reports, the Sussexes’ five-day UK visit in July, during which they had a Highgrove meeting with King Charles, passed without a gathering between the royal cousins.

The families have not developed the regular contact that might normally allow the cousins to form a close bond, with the ongoing tension between their parents creating another layer of distance.

The Royal Observer reported that, “Despite being first cousins, Archie and Lilibet have likely never met George, Charlotte, and Louis.”

“The heartbreaking fact really does put into perspective just how much the Sussexes and the Waleses have lost due to the rift,” the outlet added, per The Express.

Although the children are now geographically closer, a reunion between the cousins is far from guaranteed.

Royal commentator Amanda Matta explained that “Even if relations are gradually improving, the Wales household likely has a full schedule already in place for the summer, and any reunion involving the cousins would require tons of planning and goodwill from all parties involved.”

While the future of Archie and Lilibet’s relationship with their first cousins remains uncertain, the Sussex kids are expected to at least spend more time with their grandfather, King Charles, who is said to have been particularly excited to have the kids back in the UK.

Archie and Lilibet have already had a significant royal-family reunion with Charles this year when he met the children at his Highgrove residence during a private gathering with Harry and Meghan.

It was the first time the monarch had seen his youngest grandchildren in person since the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.

The meeting demonstrated that the children’s relationship with their grandfather can exist separately from the unresolved relationship between Harry and William.

It also came after Harry had made efforts to maintain contact with his father. Harry’s relationship with Charles is said to be showing signs of “thawing”, while his relationship with William remains broken.

Just days into the new school term, Harry and Meghan moved them to another school after discussions with their security team about the arrangements surrounding the children.

An ITV report said the couple’s spokesperson confirmed that the decision was made after consultation with the family’s security team and stressed that it should not be interpreted as criticism of the first school.

Harry’s security arrangements have also remained a major issue. It was revealed that his security situation was due for a review by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) after he moved back to Britain, with Meghan’s security position also being reviewed.

The children’s school arrangements were part of the wider practical considerations surrounding their return.

“She sees the Cotswolds as the perfect place to establish her own royal circle and shore up her defenses after feeling shut out by the family,” the insider added.

They pointed to reported visits involving Princess Beatrice and her family, as well as claims that Harry, Meghan and their children have visited the Gatcombe Park estate, where Zara and Mike Tindall live.
