Prince Harry‘s visit to the UK has faced major controversy, with reports of a disagreement between the duke and Buckingham Palace over accommodation arrangements and ongoing security concerns.
The dispute has reignited public scrutiny of Harry’s relationship with the royal family, while also raising questions about whether Meghan Markle and their children will be able to join him in Britain.
The developments come as Prince Harry undertakes engagements linked to the 2027 Invictus Games and other charitable commitments.
Royal Rift Reignites As Prince Harry And Palace Clash Over Accommodation Offer
Mirrorpix / MEGAHarry has returned to London for a 10-day visit that includes engagements connected to the 2027 Invictus Games. His arrival has been overshadowed by renewed tensions with Buckingham Palace over accommodation arrangements during the trip.
Reports suggest King Charles had previously offered Harry the option of staying at a royal residence while in the UK. However, conflicting accounts have emerged over what happened next, with claims that the Duke of Sussex attempted to accept the offer after the deadline had passed, leading to the accommodation no longer being available.
The dispute has sparked fresh public debate, with former royal butler Grant Harrold describing the situation as a “PR crisis for both sides.”
“This is an extraordinary yet upsetting development,” Harrold, 48, said while discussing the reports, per OK! Magazine. “Harry is saying one thing, and the palace is saying another.”
Harrold continued, “This back and forth with contradicting statements feels like a throwback to where we were six years ago when Harry and Meghan [Markle] announced they were stepping down as senior royals.”
Royal Butler Calls The Duke’s Late Acceptance Of His Father’s Offer A ‘Slap In The Face’
WPA-Pool / MEGA Speaking further on the disaster surrounding the revoked royal accommodation, the former butler, Harrold, shared that it confirmed how bad Harry’s relationship with King Charles has gotten.
“Unfortunately, this indicates that Harry and the king’s relationship has completely broken down,” the etiquette expert said.
He continued, “The king is obviously saddened by this latest setback. It is all a real mess and has really exposed their private relationship.”
Harrold further claimed that Prince William, on the other hand, is having an “I told you so” moment with the monarch as he predicted that Harry’s visit would cause drama.
“It’s incredibly embarrassing for his father, who has yet again tried to offer Harry an olive branch. Harry has repeatedly slapped the king in the face, which is a great shame,” the former royal butler said. “It wouldn’t surprise me if Harry no longer visits London.”
“I think he will still honor the Invictus Games, but I don’t see him coming to London off the back of this. It is all very embarrassing, especially for the royal family,” he added.
Insiders Allege Prince Harry’s Royal Accommodation Proposal Was ‘Made In Bad Faith’
MEGAThe controversy deepened after sources speaking to royal expert Tom Sykes claimed the original accommodation offer may never have been intended to go ahead.
According to the report, some insiders believe the proposal was “made in bad faith,” a claim that has further fueled speculation surrounding the dispute.
Reports suggest the Duke of Sussex, 41, accepted the accommodation proposal over the July 4 weekend, only for the offer to later be withdrawn. The development has fueled disagreement between Harry’s camp and Buckingham Palace over how events unfolded.
One source alleged that Harry believes he was unfairly placed in a difficult position, claiming he feels a royal residence was offered and then taken away after he attempted to accept it. The insider added that “sincerity of the palace’s motives “has been met with skepticism in some quarters.
The dispute comes amid ongoing concerns over security arrangements for Harry and his family while visiting Britain. Although earlier reports suggested Meghan Markle and the couple’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, could potentially join him during the trip, they are now expected to remain in the United States due to security issues.
Prince Harry’s Hopes for A Family Reunion With King Charles Face New Obstacle
MEGAAccording to reports, Harry and Meghan had been considering their first family visit to Britain in four years ahead of events connected to the Invictus Games, which are scheduled to take place in Birmingham in 2027.
The duke was reportedly looking forward to the possibility of Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, spending time with Charles during the trip.
However, those plans have reportedly been thrown into doubt after the government declined Harry’s request for police protection outside royal residences.
Sources close to the duke told The Guardian that he is deeply concerned about the safety of his family and does not want his children “chased by paparazzi wherever they go from the moment they step off the plane.”
One insider alleged Harry was “distraught” by the situation and is exploring possible alternatives that would allow Meghan and the children to travel safely. They claimed the duke remains hopeful that his children will eventually be able to see their grandfather but fears that may not be possible without suitable protection arrangements.
A family reunion would carry particular significance, as it would mark the first time Charles has seen his youngest grandchildren in person since 2022, when the family attended celebrations for the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.
Meghan Markle Reportedly Staying Behind As Prince Harry Attends UK Events Alone
ZUMAPRESS.com / MEGAThe adjustment to the Sussexes’ plans means Meghan will not accompany Harry to meetings connected to the Invictus Games at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, where the duke expected to attend engagements alone.
Later in the week, Harry is also scheduled to visit Birmingham Children’s Hospital in support of the charity WellChild, which he has continued to champion since relocating to the United States.
If Meghan does travel to Britain later in the week, she is expected to join Harry at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre for events marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games.
Reports have also suggested the family may visit Althorp, the Northamptonshire estate of Harry’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, where he had reportedly hoped to take Meghan and their children to pay respects at her private gravesite.
While Harry and Charles are widely expected to see one another during the visit, Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on private family matters. Any meeting between father and son, or between the king and his grandchildren, is likely to remain out of the public eye.
