Reports suggest King Charles had previously offered Harry the option of staying at a royal residence while in the UK. However, conflicting accounts have emerged over what happened next, with claims that the Duke of Sussex attempted to accept the offer after the deadline had passed, leading to the accommodation no longer being available.

The dispute has sparked fresh public debate, with former royal butler Grant Harrold describing the situation as a “PR crisis for both sides.”

“This is an extraordinary yet upsetting development,” Harrold, 48, said while discussing the reports, per OK! Magazine. “Harry is saying one thing, and the palace is saying another.”

Harrold continued, “This back and forth with contradicting statements feels like a throwback to where we were six years ago when Harry and Meghan [Markle] announced they were stepping down as senior royals.”

He continued, “The king is obviously saddened by this latest setback. It is all a real mess and has really exposed their private relationship.”

Harrold further claimed that Prince William, on the other hand, is having an “I told you so” moment with the monarch as he predicted that Harry’s visit would cause drama.

“It’s incredibly embarrassing for his father, who has yet again tried to offer Harry an olive branch. Harry has repeatedly slapped the king in the face, which is a great shame,” the former royal butler said. “It wouldn’t surprise me if Harry no longer visits London.”

“I think he will still honor the Invictus Games, but I don’t see him coming to London off the back of this. It is all very embarrassing, especially for the royal family,” he added.
