Prince Harry‘s royal children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, were suddenly moved from their UK schools after just two days due to growing security concerns. A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed the news and said the decision to pull their children from their school was in no way a reflection on the institution. The decision comes just weeks after Prince Harry and his wife, actress Meghan Markle, relocated to the UK after six years away from their royal stomping grounds.
MEGAPrince Harry and Meghan Markle’s young children, Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, began classes in the UK just days ago, but after a sudden change in events, they’ve already been removed for security reasons.
“The decision for the children to move schools was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements,” a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess told PEOPLE.
Prince Harry and Markle reportedly remain “extremely grateful” for the care from the children’s schoolteachers.
What’s Causing The Security Concerns Around Prince Harry’s Kids’ Schools?
MEGAThe switch comes at an unfortunate time, as the little royals recently spent the first two days of classes meeting their classmates and teachers.
Sources close to Prince Harry and Markle reiterated their spokesperson’s statement that the change did not reflect on the school. Instead, heavy traffic in the area and the distance between the school and their home are the main factors.
“It’s a real shame, because they absolutely adored the school, the kids and their parents. It was perfect for them in every way, and the children really enjoyed their time there. They really wanted to make it work, but they had to make a difficult decision based on the fact that the team couldn’t make the school run operationally secure,” a friend of the family shared.

The Royals Likely Didn’t See This Coming
The sudden change comes weeks after Prince Harry and Markle relocated back to the UK after residing in California for the last six years. Before starting classes, a source said Meghan and Prince Harry focused on making sure the children felt settled before doing anything else.
“There is a lot to do. They have just moved halfway across the world, and it’s been really busy getting the kids settled,” the source added. “Their focus has been on that, and will remain on that, for the time being. They are happy to be back.”
Prince Harry And Markle Assigned A Risk Assessment
MEGAAmid news that Prince Harry and Markle removed their kids from their UK schools, The Telegraph reported on September 14 that the committee chairman of the Royal and VIP Executive Committee informed the “Spare” author and his wife in early September that it would commission separate risk assessment units for both of them.
The decision marks the first time Markle has received a security detail since her police protection was revoked after she and Prince Harry announced plans to step back from their royal duties in 2020.
That Decision Made Prince Harry Feel Unsafe
𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆: Prince Harry has applied for a judicial review of a Home Office decision not to allow him to personally pay for police protection for himself and his family when they are in the UK, a legal representative for the Sussexes confirms.
Losing taxpayer-funded police protection profoundly affected Prince Harry, who told the High Court in London in 2022 that he “does not feel safe” bringing his children to the UK without protection. The 41-year-old and his wife offered to pay for security out of pocket, but a Home Office official ruled that high-profile individuals can’t pay for personal police security.
Prince Harry clapped back in court with an official filing, and his spokesperson issued another statement, saying the royal “inherited a security risk at birth.”
‘The Duke remains willing to cover the cost of security, as not to impose on the British taxpayer,” the statement read. “As is widely known, others who have left public office and have an inherent threat risk receive police protection at no cost to them.”
The statement continued, “The goal for Prince Harry has been simple—to ensure the safety of himself and his family while in the UK so his children can know his home country.”
