Sports Mole previews Saturday's La Liga clash between Osasuna and Las Palmas, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Las Palmas' search for their first La Liga victory of the 2024-25 campaign will continue on Saturday afternoon, when they head to El Sadar Stadium to take on Osasuna.

The visitors are 19th in the table, having picked up just two points from their first five games of the season, while Osasuna sit 13th, securing seven points from their opening five matches.

Osasuna picked up four points from their opening two La Liga matches of the season, drawing with Leganes before beating Mallorca, but they were on the end of a 4-0 defeat to Girona at the end of August.

Vicente Moreno's side responded with a 3-2 win over Celta Vigo before the international break, but they were beaten 3-1 by Rayo Vallecano on Monday evening, and it would be fair to say that consistency has been a problem for the team in the early stages of the new campaign.

A total of seven points from five matches has left them in 13th spot in the table, but they have the joint-second worst defensive record in the division this term, having conceded 10 times.

Osasuna have finished 10th, 11th, 10th, seventh and 11th in their last five seasons back at this level, and it would not be a surprise to see them once again around the middle of the table come the end of the campaign.

Los Rojillos drew both of their La Liga matches with Las Palmas 1-1 last season, and they have not managed to overcome Saturday's opponents since a Segunda Division clash in May 2019.

Las Palmas, meanwhile, have had a tough start to the campaign, only picking up two points from their first five games to sit 19th in the table, with only Valencia performing worse in Spain's top flight this term.

Luis Carrion's side drew 2-2 with Sevilla in their campaign opener before losing to Leganes, but they managed to hold Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw in their best result of the season so far at the end of August.

Los Amarillos were unable to build on the draw with the reigning champions, though, losing their last two against Alaves and Athletic Bilbao, conceding five times in the process.

Las Palmas put up a good fight against Athletic last time out but ultimately gave themselves too much to do and were beaten 3-2 by the Basque outfit in front of their own supporters.

Pio Pio finished 16th in Spain's top flight last season on their return to La Liga, and they are playing in back-to-back campaigns at this level of football for the first time since 2018.

Team News

Las Palmas forward Oli McBurnie on August 11, 2024© Imago

Osasuna will be missing two players through injury for this match, as Iker Munoz is a long-term absentee due to a broken leg, while Kike Barja will be out until the latter stages of the year with a serious knee injury.

Moreno's side did not pick up any fresh problems against Rayo, but it is likely that there will be a couple of changes for this match, with Ante Budimir in line to feature through the middle.

Pablo Ibanez should also be introduced in the middle of midfield, but Ruben Garcia and Bryan Zaragoza are set to retain their positions in the final third of the field.

As for Las Palmas, Alex Suarez will be missing until next month with the ankle problem which he suffered against Athletic last time out, so Alex Munoz should come into the XI.

Adnan Januzaj and Pejino will also be absent for the visitors, but aside from Suarez, the same group of players from the clash with Athletic should be available for selection.

Oli McBurnie is yet to get off the mark for Las Palmas following his arrival from Sheffield United over the summer, but the 28-year-old is again expected to lead the line in this contest.

Osasuna possible starting lineup:
Herrera; Areso, Catena, Boyomo, Bretones; Moncayola, Ibanez, Oroz; Ruben Garcia, Budimir, Zaragoza

Las Palmas possible starting lineup:
Cillessen; Park, McKenna, A Munoz, Marmol; Sandro, J Munoz, Campana, K Rodriguez, Moleiro; McBurnie

We say: Osasuna 1-0 Las Palmas

We are not expecting a classic on Saturday, but Osasuna have collected seven points from their three home league games this season, and we are backing Moreno's side to navigate their way to another victory here against a struggling Las Palmas outfit.
