The recently released action-adventure role-playing game Black Myth: Wukong by Game Science has caused quite a stir in the gaming industry. What many people won’t know is that both Black Myth: Wukong and Dragon Ball are inspired by the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West. Thus, the main characters of the game and the anime series, Sun Wukong and Son Goku, have a lot in common. This similarity between the two characters was recently seen by the fans.

An anime fan page recently shared a fan-made video of the Black Myth: Wukong game where the protagonist has transitioned from Sun Wukong to Goku. The iconic Dragon Ball main character is seen doing all the stuff that Wukong does in the game, and fans are all up for it.

The Dragon Ball Mod For Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth: Wukong was released for PlayStation 5 and Windows on August 20, 2024, and it follows the story of Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King. Sun Wukong is a religious character from Journey to the West who is a skilled fighter imbued with mythical powers.

Sun Wukong’s character from Black Myth: Wukong parallels a lot from the Journey to the West protagonist. However, with Goku sharing the same inspiration, the similarity between Goku and Sun Wukong is also quite a lot. Thus, fans wanted to see how Goku would survive in the Black Myth: Wukong world.

Thus, a fanmade video of Goku as a playable character in the video game was released by @OtakuGod_ on X.

The Dragon Ball protagonist is seen wielding the Ruyi Jingu Bang to beat up his opponents, which is quite similar to the Power Pole. He is also seen riding the clouds, which is an ode to his flying nimbus from Akira Toriyama’s series.

Dragon Ball Fans Are Thrilled To See Goku Entering The Black Myth: Wukong World

Journey to the West has not only inspired Dragon Ball and Black Myth: Wukong, but it has also had an influence on many other popular movies, series, games, etc. This is why the hype for the game and every other entertainment piece inspired by it is so much.

If Toriyama had been alive, he would have loved to talk about the game and its parallel with Dragon Ball and Goku in particular. Black Myth: Wukong is worth the hype and fans have already helped it in reaching the top spot on Steam.

Dragon Ball is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
