Patrick Mahomes’ father pleads guilty to DWI charge in Texas

Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, pleaded guilty Tuesday to his third driving while intoxicated charge, records show. 

The 54-year-old had been arrested and charged in February and was indicted in April.

Records in Smith County, Texas, showed he entered his plea on Tuesday. NBC News has reached out to his attorney for comment.

In a plea deal, Mahomes will serve five years of probation with one year of intense supervision, NBC affiliate KETK of East Texas reported.

This case marked Mahomes Sr.’s third DWI arrest. 

He was arrested in 2018, and the following year was sentenced to 40 days of jail time that would be served on weekends, according to Smith County, Texas, court records. 

He had also been arrested in September 2008 in South Dakota, District Judge Kerry Russell said in court on Tuesday, KETK reported.

His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 23.

Mahomes Sr.’s February arrest happened just days before his son led the Chiefs to a championship for the third time in Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
