Paris Jackson celebrates five years of sobriety with an emotional tribute: "I almost missed it all"

Paris Jackson, the 26-year-old daughter of the late Michael Jackson, marked an extraordinary milestone this week, celebrating five years of sobriety from alcohol and heroin.

Taking to Instagram on January 7, Paris shared an emotional video that chronicled her journey from addiction to recovery, expressing profound gratitude for the life she's built.

"Hi, I'm PK, and I'm an alcoholic and a heroin addict," she wrote in the caption, introducing a raw and inspiring montage. The video began with clips of Paris during her darkest moments, juxtaposed with scenes of her current, joy-filled life.

"Today marks five years clean and sober from all drugs and alcohol," she continued. "To say that I'm thankful would be a poor euphemism."

Paris' life took a 180 degree turn

The powerful video showcased Paris' transformation, with highlights of her achievements and everyday joys since getting sober. From creating music and walking the red carpet at Paris Fashion Week to performing on stage and sharing blissful moments with her fianc, Justin Long, and her beloved pets, Paris painted a picture of a life reclaimed.

"Because I'm sober, I get to smile today," she wrote. "I get to laugh, to grieve, to love, and to feel the sun on my skin. Life keeps happening, but today I get to show up for it."

Paris also featured her collection of sobriety chips in the video, tracking her progress from one day clean to her recent five-year milestone.

She acknowledged the support of those who have been with her throughout the journey, writing, "To those that helped me, if only for the beginning, middle, or the whole time so far, you know who you are, and I owe you my life. Thank you."

Paris started her treatment in 2019

The "Gringo" actress, who checked into treatment for emotional health in 2019, has been candid about her struggles. In a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, she revealed past self-harm and suicide attempts fueled by self-hatred and anxiety.
