Pamela Anderson moves away from the stigma of 'running in a swimsuit': "I knew I was capable of so much more and I had nothing to lose"

Pamela Anderson enjoys her profession. Now she does. At 57, she has seen much of her career rewarded. Gone are those beginnings that made her famous running along the beaches of Malibu in the legendary series 'Baywatch', but it typecast her in such a way that it has been difficult for her to get out of that stigma

She is now living happily. She has just been nominated for a Golden Globe and a Gotham Award for her role in her latest film, 'The Last Showgirl'. She is happy with how she has been able to redirect her career.

"I've doubted myself many times and others have doubted me too, but you have to believe in yourself because it's very easy to pigeonhole someone," she said, referring to being a sex symbol during the early years of her career that made her doubt herself at times.

To all this, she added that she did not expect to be offered such a different character. It was a challenge with 'The Last Showgirl'. "This role was a gift. I knew I was capable of so much more and I had nothing to lose. This may be the only chance I get in my life to play a role like this," she said. Director Gia Coppola always thought of her... She could bring Shelly to life.

In 'The Last Showgirl', Anderson plays Shelly, a Las Vegas performer whose career comes to an abrupt end after 30 years of performing. While the character is not an exact reflection of the actress, comparisons are inevitable.
