Catherine Logan made the appeal in a video released Thursday as cops continue to investigate the slaying of her son Jonathan, who was shot to death on May 19, 2023, in Renfrew, which is about an hour’s drive west of Ottawa.

Catherine said the night police knocked on her door with news of Jonathan’s death “changed” her.
“One of the officers started talking about an incident … and said there had been a shooting and there had been a victim and that Jonathan, my son, was the victim,” she said in a video published on the OPP’s YouTube channel. “And that’s how I found out my son had died at the hands of a gunman.
“I was changed. Well, Jonathan was my only child. I wonder sometimes, am I still a mom?”

Police believe ‘someone knows something’
The OPP said Jonathan was fatally shot that May night at about 10:30 p.m. in a home on Vimy Blvd., on the Ottawa Valley town’s west side.
Cops said the suspect fled from the scene before police arrived and they remain at large. They also believe Jonathan was deliberately targeted and they are “confident” that someone has information that could help crack the case.

“There were several other people in the house that fled when the incident happened,” Det.-Sgt. Joe Limlaw said. “We believe someone knows something that can help us solve this case and provide answers to Jonathan’s loved ones.”

Neighbourhood notorious for drug use
Witnesses told the Ottawa Citizen the day after the shooting that there was usually a steady stream of vehicles flowing through the area and that it was common for them to see intoxicated people and find drug paraphernalia on the street.
While Catherine previously told the Eganville Leader that Jonathan – who had a daughter – struggled for years with substance abuse, she said in the video that he was also a protector who “would have stood up for any one of his friends” under similar circumstances.
“If something like this had happened to one of his friends, he would have done the right thing,” Catherine said. “I know a lot of them know something and I understand they’re scared. I would be, too, but it’s my son and I need answers.”
“And how you guys can live with yourself right now, I don’t know. But you need to step up.”
Anyone with information regarding the investigation is urged to contact the Renfrew OPP crime unit at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can also be sent to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
