Officer killed, two others injured in Dallas shooting, police say

One police officer was shot dead and two others were injured in southern Dallas late Thursday, the Dallas Police Department said.

An unnamed suspect fled from the scene, but was pursued and later shot by officers, police said in a statement early Friday.

The incident happened at around 10:10 p.m. local time in the area of East Ledbetter Drive and South Marsalis Avenue in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, the statement said.

When police arrived, it said, they found an officer shot in a marked squad car. They exchanged fire with an alleged suspect at the scene, and two officers were hit in the exchange, according to the Dallas Police.

All three were taken to local hospitals, but one died from their injuries. One officer remains in stable condition and another is in critical, police said.

The suspect was chased to Lewisville, and a preliminary investigation determined he got out of the vehicle with a long gun and was shot, dying at the scene, police said.
