OF Model Courtney Clenney’s Murdered BF’s Mom Left In ‘Too Much Pain’ After Sentencing

Courtney Clenney has finally been sentenced after four years for taking the life of her then-boyfriend.

The mother of the late Christian Obumseli has spoken up after the entertainer responsible for taking her son’s life was sentenced following a gruesome stabbing incident in 2022. Grief lingers in her heart as her son’s death has caused wounds that may never fully heal.

Courtney Clenney initially pleaded not guilty to the charge of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon. She maintained that her relationship with her murdered boyfriend was toxic and abusive, and she acted in self-defense.

After the case spanned nearly four years, a ruling was finally issued for Clenney following her admission to being responsible for the death of her boyfriend in 2022. The Instagram and OF model initially faced second-degree murder over the fatal stabbing of Obumseli, her then-lover, in their luxury Miami apartment.

A change in the script came after prosecutors and the media personality’s attorneys revealed details of a plea deal in which she agreed to a charge of manslaughter with a deadly weapon instead. 

It was also revealed that the court was seeking to put Clenney behind bars for six years to pay for the crime. However, she has spent four years in an orange jumpsuit while awaiting trial and, as such, will only spend two more years in jail.

The Daily Mail reported that Judge Andrea Ricker Wolfson sentenced Clenney to six years in prison, with time served, followed by five years of probation.  

Inside Christian Obumseli’s Mother’s Statement Post-Sentencing

Obumseli’s mother addressed the court after the Instagram model’s sentence was read, expressing her grief and pain for the loss of her son. “There is simply too much pain to put on paper,” she began, adding that even after four years, the pain is yet to vanish.

She stressed that she does not want her late son to be remembered only for the painful way he died, while mentioning some of the good qualities he had during his lifetime. “Everyone who knew Christian can attest that he was kind-hearted, compassionate, friendly, and respectful,” she continued.

As she addressed Miami-Dade Criminal Court, she noted that words cannot describe the feeling of standing over the grave of a child, living with loss for years, and awaiting accountability from the justice system.

Although not addressing Clenney, who was seen wiping tears from her eyes with a tissue, Obumseli’s mother said, “Today closes a legal chapter, but it certainly doesn’t close our grief. No sentence, no plea can bring back my son to me.”

The Obumseli Family Hoped Justice Would Prevail

Clenney was arrested in Hawaii after investigators concluded their four-month-long probe into details surrounding her late 27-year-old boyfriend’s murder. The Obemseli family at that time expressed their hopes that the OF model be found guilty of second-degree murder and even sentenced to life imprisonment, as reported by The Blast.

The attorney of the deceased’s family, Larry Handfield, spoke to media outlets on behalf of the family at the time. He expressed the family’s relief at the authorities’ decision to arrest the media personality.

He also noted that the Obumselis had initially lost hope in the justice system, seeing that no arrest was made for their son’s murder at first. However, after Clenney was taken into custody facing charges, their faith was restored in the system with hopes that their son’s murderer would not go scot-free.

The content creator’s defense attorney, on the other hand, expressed that while he understands their desire to see their son’s death given justice, he did not believe Clenney deserved a lifetime behind bars.

The OF Model Initially Claimed Self-Defense

Following Clenney’s arrest, she pleaded not guilty to the charges while her legal team argued that the stabbing was in self-defense. Her legal rep, Frank Prieto, stated that the lovers had a “clearly toxic” and “complicated” relationship that was common knowledge to their friends and family, as shared by The Blast.

The Instagram model claimed that she threw the knife at her then-boyfriend from feet away in a bid to defend herself from his attacks. Graphic case photos later revealed that she stabbed Obumseli inches above a tattoo of her name in cursive on the left side of his chest. 

Evidence from the medical examiner disputes Clenney’s claims and narrative of the fatal incident. Miami State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said that, according to the examiner, Obumseli’s injury was more consistent with a “downward knife strike,” hence a knife thrown from feet away could not have caused such an injury.

Two days before Obumseli’s murder, the pair had a heated disagreement, which led to police involvement. Released bodycam footage showed the content creator telling officers that she had broken up with her boyfriend for at least a week, but he refused to leave her alone.

She also told the officer that Obumseli was “stalking” her and even requested that a restraining order be issued against him. Later in the footage, Clenney could be seen shaking uncontrollably, seemingly from fear, as she told authorities, “I’m scared of him at this point.”

As previously reported by The Blast, the Obumselis refuted the domestic violence claims, arguing that he “was raised by a very strong family with strong morals, strong values.” The stabbing that led to the 27-year-old’s death reportedly stemmed from a heated verbal argument that turned physical.
