When the first teaser of Deadpool & Wolverine was released, one of the most surprising scenes was the return of Pyro. The Aaron Stanford mutant was introduced as a minor character in 2000’s X-Men, but became more significant in 2003’s X2 and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand.

Wolverine and Pyro had one of the most hilarious scenes in Deadpool & Wolverine

The fans were insanely excited as Deadpool & Wolverine brought back Hugh Jackman‘s Logan in a more badass avatar. His violent action led the film to deliver some of the coolest action sequences in the MCU. However, the fans believe that the scene where Logan cuts off Pyro’s speech midway deserves more appreciation.

The particular scene did not possess any gore or visual extravaganza but smoothly explained how Logan was slowly learning a few tricks from Wade throughout the film. Contrary to Deadpool, we have usually spotted Jackman’s mutant as a no-nonsense violent being. But in a scene where Pyro shoots Cassandra Nova and expects to deliver a speech, Wolverine punches him midway and says “Not everyone gets a speech“.

i love how this is something wade would’ve done too but instead they gave it to logan pic.twitter.com/41q7u5xy5f

The user @melissa rightfully pointed out that it was an intelligent move for the makers to also give a Deadpool-esque savage moment to Logan. On top of that, it is undeniable that Aaron Stanford‘s Pyro was one of the most annoying characters in the film. Most of the fans felt satisfied when Logan humiliated the fiery mutant in such a manner.

Pyro’s scene with Johnny Storm was supposed to be better

Chris Evans‘ return as Johnny Storm was another insane surprise in the 2024 blockbuster. Nobody expected the actor to make such a return to the MCU even though it was for a brief period. However, his revelation in Deadpool & Wolverine was followed by a very brief confrontation with Pyro.

The scene was undoubtedly very underwhelming as Evans’ Human Torch could not do anything before Pyro. While the fans expected a big blazing battle, the spirit extinguished in no time. But in an interview with RadioTimes.com, Aaron Stanford claimed that initially a full-fledged encounter was planned between the characters but the makers soon realized that it was “not a struggle” for Pyro to fight against Human Torch.

I think the initial idea was for it to be a real struggle, a real battle between two superpowers. But, as we were filming, I realized that, for Pyro, it’s not a battle because this is what he does, and he has now found himself up against the ideal opponent because it’s not a struggle. For him, this is the easiest thing in the world. Anybody else he was up against, it would be difficult. But for him, this is like a snap. So we figured out, alright, he should suck all the flame out, and then he just winks it out like it’s nothing.

Additionally, it was also revealed that Evans’ and Stanford’s scenes were shot separately due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes. While Deadpool & Wolverine has diverted from the comics to show Pyro winning over Human Torch, it was commendable how the studio was super secretive about Evans’ comeback.
