Beginning Sept. 7, there will be “new or improved” service on 21 routes. Among the service upgrades is the introduction of the R2 Marine-Willingdon RapidBus, which will connect Phibbs Exchange in North Vancouver to Metrotown Station.

The R2 will run daily, with service every six to seven minutes during peak periods. The route will operate 60-foot articulated buses to connect riders directly from North Vancouver to the Burnaby shopping centre. It replaces the 222 Willingdon Express, which has more than 1.9 million boardings annually. The last day of service for 222 is Sept. 4.

A new community shuttle route, 556, will launch in Langley, connecting Gloucester Industrial Estates to Langley Centre. It will operate every 30 minutes during peak weekday hours.

“The route was developed in response to community feedback and will support an area expected to see more than 7,500 jobs added over the next decade,” according to a statement from TransLink.

The R2 begins operation three months earlier than projected, having been fast-tracked by TransLink, and the 556 begins operation one year ahead of schedule.

Seasonal service is also expected to return for five routes servicing post-secondary schools like the University of B.C., Simon Fraser University and Capilano University.
