From its power system to its character designs, My Hero Academia is impeccable as a superhero Shonen manga. Apart from its accolades and recognition, Kohei Horikoshi’s work is a refreshing take on the superhero genre. From bagging accolades to worldwide recognition, Horikoshi’s work is in a league of its own. However, with the manga’s finale, its closure didn’t sit well with most fans.

With an underwhelming ending that left many fans disappointed, the series faced severe backlash. While its lackluster ending was critiqued, it reflected a glimmer of a possible romance between Ohchaco and Deku. Although the series strips the readers of any possible romance it could follow in the footsteps of Naruto and explore the characters’ relationship dynamic.

My Hero Academia could map Ohchaco and Deku’s romance through a film just like Naruto.

While the story follows the trope of a powerless protagonist’s journey to heroism, it does hint at possible romances. This holds especially true for Deku and Ochaco’s relationship in the series. Kohei Horikoshi is praised for his exceptional artistic prowess and visuals in his manga. Although romance isn’t his best suit, he could follow in the footsteps of Masashi Kishimoto.

Apart from its unique power system of quirks My Hero Academia has so much potential to explore relationships. This goes beyond the binary of romance and friendships. While the author disputed any possible romances in his manga, the ending seemed to prove otherwise. With Ochaco admitting her feelings for Deku, the author could navigate the characters’ relationship through a movie.

However, he somewhat redeemed himself by exploring Naruto and Hinata’s relationship in the movie The Last: Naruto The Movie. While Deku and Ochaco remain friends, Horikoshi could explore this dynamic further. However, the movie won’t redeem him from the disastrous ending.

While a movie can navigate and underscore Deku and Ochaco’s relationship, it won’t negate the series’ horrid ending. From plot inconsistencies to rushed pacing, Horikoshi’s ending of his manga was nothing short of disastrous. Be it sidelining the side characters or shifting complete focus on the main characters, the series ending is truly irredeemable.

This holds especially true for Deku Midoriya’s character. With the protagonist being powerless, the series’ failed its characters immensely. The strengths and skills of the female characters aren’t explored thoroughly in the series. While the characters turn out to be ambassadors and role models after the time-skip the ending feels inconclusive in most cases due to its rushed pacing.

All in all, Kohei Horikoshi’s series is a breath of fresh air in a world of superhero cliches. With his concept of quirks and a relatable protagonist, the author projects familiarity to the readers. While Deku and Ochaco’s relationship should be explored in a movie, there has been no official statement regarding that.

To say the least, the series’ ending may not be everyone’s cup of tea. While it may have come across as disastrous and irredeemable to most fans, the series’ end was necessary. The closure also paves the way for the author to work on different projects after battling with health issues during his series’ serialization.
