A 4-year-old boy was attacked by a mountain lion and required hospital treatment over the Labor Day weekend at a California state park. 

The unidentified child was attacked at Malibu State Creek Park, in the Santa Monica mountains of southern California, on Sunday, The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. The attack took place in the the Tapia Day Use area, the sheriff's department said. 

The child was airlifted to a hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 

California State Parks rangers responded and euthanized the animal. 

An investigation is being led by California State Parks.
