Addressing inquiries about her long-time ally, West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore Capito provided insight into McConnell’s ongoing rehabilitation. Speaking with independent reporter Nicholas Ballasy, Capito reiterated details from a recent official statement issued by McConnell’s office confirming his stay at a recovery center. 

She revealed that a mutual acquaintance who recently paid a personal visit to the former Senate leader described him as alert, focused, and mentally sharp. She also noted that his primary focus is regaining physical strength.

“I talked to somebody yesterday who visited him and said that he was clear-minded and just needs to get stronger,” she said, People Magazine reports.  

While Capito expressed relief over his mental state, she acknowledged that visiting hospitalized colleagues requires careful boundaries and respect for personal privacy.

She explained that she intends to hold off on visiting her peer in person until he signals a readiness for additional guests, emphasizing that undergoing physical therapy in a facility is a delicate process.

The latest concerns surrounding the veteran politician trace back to a June report confirming his unexpected admission to a medical facility. A brief official statement issued by his spokesman, David Popp, confirmed the hospitalization, reassuring the public that the lawmaker was “receiving excellent care”. 

However, the initial announcement provided no specific medical diagnosis or details regarding what prompted the emergency care, leaving colleagues and constituents uncertain about the severity of his condition.

According to The  Blast, the lack of immediate clarity added to growing concerns of health setbacks for the politician, who has faced several public medical incidents in recent years.

McConnell’s hospitalization follows a series of previous physical setbacks, including a similar fall following a Senate Republican lunch. Walking alongside fellow Republican Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming, he tripped as he exited the event.

Despite causing initial alarm among observers, he walked back to his Capitol Hill office without assistance before being checked by medical staff. 

Addressing the incident shortly afterward, a spokesperson for the Kentucky senator moved to downplay health concerns, confirming that he had received medical clearance. The office noted that he suffered only a minor facial cut and a sprained wrist from the trip.

Joining the conversation, former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” personality Lisa Rinna added to the commentary by posting a viral video on social media, suggesting that the politician had passed away. 

“I mean, come on, Mitch McConnell’s dead. He’s dead,” Rinna said, per The Blast. “They’re keeping him alive like ‘Weekend at Bernie’s,” she added. 

Notably, political allies quickly pushed back against the viral online rumors to clarify his current status. GOP strategist Scott Jennings publicly refuted the claims. He shared that he had recently spoken directly with the senior senator on the phone amid his continued hospital recovery.

Following the release of an official photograph meant to reassure constituents about the senator’s progress, Kimmel posted an edited version of the picture on social media, superimposing his own face onto the politician’s body. 

Mirroring the original caption, Kimmel wrote, “For those who’ve been asking, I’m feeling great,” per The Blast.

The satirical post quickly went viral, prompting amused responses from fans and fellow celebrities, though it also caused confusion among some users who mistook the image for a genuine health announcement.
