With each chapter’s release, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is taking the entire internet by storm. Two Blue Vortex is a sequel to Boruto: Naruto Next Generations that continues three years after the events of the first series. Many fabs were left in disbelief after witnessing their beloved characters being overpowered by the new generation.

Uzumaki Boruto is widely regarded as the strongest shinobi in history, surpassing even Naruto and Sasuke. Despite being mentored by Sasuke Uchiha and earning the title of the strongest, our beloved protagonist often faces heavy criticism.

Boruto‘s Mangaka Hints at Upcoming Character Growth for a Key Figure

Since the start of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, the manga series has acted as a treasure trove of information. Thanks to the help of Eida’s powers, Kawaki convinced everyone in the Hidden Leaf Village that he was Naruto’s true son. Surprisingly, the role of the two brothers was shifted significantly with Boruto holding the image of a fugitive suspected of killing the Hokage.

Interestingly, Mikio Ikemoto recently shared some insights on the manga’s future, confirming Kawaki to receive a character update soon. Since the start of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, our protagonist has surprised several formidable opponents with his immense strength. Boruto has surpassed Kawaki after training under Sasuke Uchiha. In an interview, Ikemoto revealed:

As for Boruto and Kawaki, however, their very existence is completely opposite. Boruto’s a character who doesn’t realize how lucky he is, despite having a lot from the start. Kawaki’s a character who has lost everything and doesn’t realize his own value. Naruto and Sasuke, and Boruto and Kawaki are rivals in the story. But I think their relationships are pretty different in Naruto and Boruto.

Mikio Ikemoto originally worked as the chief assistant for Masashi Kishimoto‘s manga series Naruto from 1999 to 2014. He further adds his opinion about Boruto- Kawaki’s rivalry:

In the Naruto-Sasuke and Boruto-Kawaki relationships, each one is a rival to the other to assert their worth. However, their opposition is very different. In Naruto, the protagonist is constantly in opposition in which he expresses and conveys what he feels to Sasuke. By doing this, he evolves as a protagonist. On the other hand, in Boruto, it’s Kawaki who’s in the position of someone who shows a strong attachment to the main character Boruto.

It’s true that Boruto and Kawaki’s rivalry follows the same theme as Naruto and Sasuke. However, both rivalries showcase different ideals, where Boruto is seen following Sasuke’s footsteps while Kawaki’s obsession with Naruto’s safety is making many fans hate his character.

Mikio Ikemoto on Why His New Protagonist Stands Apart from Naruto

After the Two Blue Vortex release, Boruto’s character development can’t be taken lightly. Mikio Ikemoto’s approach behind his protagonist’s character development has consistently ensured that fans recognize Boruto has surpassed Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto.

In an interview with Masashi Kishimoto, Ikemoto explained what sets his protagonist apart from Naruto. His character aligns more with Sasuke in this respect; both of them had a great family that was taken away from them. However, Boruto won’t be facing the same tragedy as his mentor and hopefully will be reunited with his entire finally at the end. Aware of Naruto’s immense popularity, Ikemoto has tried to differentiate his character from his father’s.
