The concept of killing the characters is one of the few things that Eiichiro Oda does not enjoy in One Piece. The manga creator has been working on his series for almost thirty years and to this day, he does not like the idea of killing his characters. And while there have been deaths in the series, Oda has made sure that they have a lasting impact on the narrative.

Among the characters who have died, the ones who have had the most impact on the series are definitely Ace and Whitebeard during the Marineford arc. However, according to a bizarre One Piece theory, another major character is going to die soon in the series as he shared an uncanny connection with Ace and Whitebeard.

This character is none other than Dracule Mihawk, the strongest swordsman in the world. His impending death comes from the fact that he had a link with Ace and Whitebeard, and this link is the oldest Emperor of the Sea, Red-Haired Shanks.

One Piece Theory Hints at Dracule Mihawk’s Death

Mihawk’s character holds a lot of importance in the One Piece narrative because of his position in the pirate world and his status as the strongest swordsman in the world. Although he has not had much screen time, fans understand that he is going to have a lot of influence on the final war of the series.

However, according to a theory posted by @SarotsiX, Mihawk might be the next in line to be killed. The theory states that a majorly common thing between Ace and Whitebeard was that they shared drinks with Shanks. Ace did it when he met Shanks for the first time to talk about Luffy, and Whitebeard did it when Shanks went to warn him about Blackbeard.

While this seems bizarre, it can be a foreshadowed aspect by Eiichiro Oda. He could have in a way linked Shanks to the deaths of Ace and Whitebeard, and now the only character who shared a drink with Shanks and is still alive is Mihawk. Thus, after connecting all the dots, there is a possibility that he might be the next major death in One Piece.

The Concept of Death in One Piece

Although the above-mentioned theory makes sense in a weird way, it is highly unlikely that fans will see the death of a major character. This is because Oda has been quite vocal about avoiding death in One Piece as much as possible.

In 2018, Oda even gave the reason behind not killing characters in an interview, which was later shared by the popular One Piece fan account @sandman_AP on X.

Oda stated:

The reason I don’t want to draw scenes where people die is because I want to draw a party after the battle. If someone dies, you can’t have an enjoyable party. A party is my ideal form of friendship. I want to end with One Piece with a big party.

The One Piece mangaka has followed his idea of not killing characters wholeheartedly. And even though there have been deaths in the series, Oda has made sure that either they have some kind of impact on the narrative or they are not as sad as Ace or Whitebeard’s.

Thus, One Piece fans have a strong reason to believe that Oda might not kill any other character in the series, and he might just end it on a happy note that will be satisfying for everyone.

One Piece is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
