Michigan fans called out on social media for rushing field after Wolverines steal win over Western Michigan

Emotions are what make college football great, but there is a fine line between showing raw emotions and letting emotions get the best of you. The latter happened in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Saturday night.

The Michigan Wolverines were beaten – and some would say literally – by Western Michigan on Saturday before one of the more unbelievable scenes in the sport's history unfolded.

After Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood sailed his Hail Mary attempt out of the back of the endzone and the clock hit triple zeros, the officials reviewed the play and elected to put one second back on the clock. The video review seen on the NBC broadcast left no doubt that time had expired on the clocks available to the network, but a second was added, and the rest is history.

CLOCK CONTROVERSY ALLOWS MICHIGAN WOLVERINES TO AVOID MASSIVE UPSET AGAINST WESTERN MICHIGAN

Underwood's second Hail Mary attempt was perfect as he lobbed a pass to the goal line for 6-foot-4 receiver JJ Buchanan to go up and get it, and get it he did.

With Michigan stealing a 13-12 win over the Broncos in dramatic fashion, the fans who stuck around in The Big House stormed the field to celebrate. While the Wolverines have gone through a significant amount of change in leadership and coaching in recent months, it's still the same Michigan that is just three years removed from winning a national title, and its fans rushing the field after beating a MAC team was quite the scene.

The Wolverines were four-touchdown favorites heading into Saturday's contest against the Broncos.

College football fans were quick to call out the celebrations that broke out on the field in Ann Arbor.

While the last-second drama added some much-needed fuel to a relatively lackluster Week 1 of college football, the addition of time back on the clock, coupled with a fanbase of a blue-blood program storming the field after scoring 13 points against a MAC, turned into the headline as opposed to the final play itself.
