Metrolinx rolling out service changes to GO train and bus service

The summer travel season is done. The transit services provided by Metrolinx will reflect that reality.

“As ridership patterns return to more typical levels, we’re making seasonal schedule adjustments on the Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, Barrie and Stouffville lines, as well as some GO bus routes,” the company said in a post on X.

Metrolinx said rush-hour service will remain unchanged. 

“These changes address seasonal adjustments to align service with demand, shift some rail service to bus as an interim measure to address the availability of train crews, and provide an opportunity to advance important work on the Barrie and Stouffville lines,” Metrolinx said in the release.

These interim measures are expected to continue until next spring.  

Some of the changes

Weekend service on both Lakeshore lines will return to every 30 minutes, down from the 15-minute service currently offered during the afternoon and evening. Midday and evening service to and from Niagara Falls on weekdays will also be adjusted. 

Weekday evening and weekend service on the Barrie and Stouffville lines will change, with some train trips no longer operating. Additional buses on routes 65, 68 and 71 will assist the Barrie and Stouffville line passengers when trains are not running. 

Passengers travelling to and from Niagara Falls can use GO bus route 12, which connects to Lakeshore West trains at Burlington GO.

Certain GO bus schedules will change beginning Sept. 5, including the return of service to post-secondary schools on routes 15, 25, 29, 30, 41, 47, 52, 56 and 88. 

Additional trips will be added to several routes across the network, while some bus schedules will be adjusted to improve connections with other bus and rail services. 

Bus service to the Toronto Zoo, Canada’s Wonderland, and Toronto Premium Outlets ended on Sunday. 

“Metrolinx acknowledges these types of changes to service are challenging and appreciates customers’ understanding and patience with these adjustments,” the company said.
