Meghan Markle has remained noticeably out of the public spotlight since returning to the UK with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
While the Duchess of Sussex has been seen enjoying a handful of private outings, she is yet to join her husband at any major or official events.
Meghan Markle’s absence from Harry’s side has now raised questions about her cautious approach to life back in Britain and how she intends to navigate her complicated relationship with the British public.
Meghan Markle Appears Cautious About Making Public Appearances In The UK.
MEGASince returning to Britain after six years away, Meghan has largely limited herself to private activities. According to the Daily Express, she has visited a local pub with friends and was spotted at Soho Farmhouse, but has stayed away from major public engagements.
Her approach has been noticeably different from Harry’s. The Duke of Sussex has attended several events since the move, including the WellChild Awards in London, which Meghan did not attend alongside him.
Royal commentator Daisy McAndrew found that particular absence surprising because of Harry’s longstanding connection to the organization. She described it as “strange” that Meghan did not accompany him to an event that is “close to Harry’s heart.”
Still, Meghan has not completely disappeared from public view. She has offered glimpses of the family’s new routine through social media, including moments of Archie and Lilibet riding their bikes and taking walks in the countryside.
The Duchess Fears She Might ‘Get Booed’ By The British Public, But Experts Say It Depends On The Event
MEGAOne possible explanation raised for Meghan’s low profile is uncertainty over how she would be received at a public event in Britain.
During a discussion about the duchess, Daily Express podcast host JJ Anisiobi noted Meghan might stick to “just going to Soho Farmhouse, another couple or three country pubs and staying at home… she’s not going to attend any public events with Harry because she’s going to fear people will boo her.”
McAndrew, however, argued that the reception would likely depend on the type of engagement Meghan chose to attend. She noted that there are some events where the duchess would be far less likely to encounter a hostile response.
“Depending on what the event is, she wouldn’t be booed inside,” McAndrew said. She pointed specifically to Harry’s Invictus events as one environment where Meghan could potentially make her return to public life.
The commentator suggested such an appearance could allow Meghan to gauge the reaction for herself.
“I would imagine that we’d see her at that sort of thing, testing the water,” she explained.

Royal Expert Questions Meghan Markle’s Plans To Rebuild Her Public Image
James Whatling / MEGAMeghan’s reluctance to make a major appearance has also left McAndrew wondering whether the duchess intends to improve how she is viewed in Britain.
The royal commentator said she had previously expected Meghan to make a more visible effort following her return. That assumption was partly based on the duchess’ business interests and the importance of her personal image to the projects she promotes.
“I’ve always assumed that she does want to turn public opinion around, partly because she’s now a businesswoman,” McAndrew said. She argued that selling something closely connected to one’s identity becomes more difficult “if people don’t like you personally.”
For that reason, McAndrew expected a more active approach from Meghan, saying she thought “there would be much more of a love-bombing effect.” Her limited appearances so far have instead left open the question of how much she wants to reintroduce herself to the British public.
The Duchess Chooses Casual Outings Over High Profile Events
Xavier Collin/Image Press Agency / MEGAAlthough Meghan has avoided formal public engagements, she has been seen enjoying a much more relaxed social life. The duchess recently visited a pub in Oxfordshire with longtime friends Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi.
According to People Magazine, Meghan joined the couple at The Three Horseshoes while Harry was attending the WellChild Awards in London. The casual gathering was another example of the quieter outings she appears to favor since returning to Britain.
Meghan has a longstanding friendship with DeGeneres and de Rossi dating back to the Sussexes’ years in California. The couple relocated to the Cotswolds in 2024 and now divide their time between Britain and California.
For now, Meghan’s approach appears different from Harry’s schedule of public engagements. While he has been more visible at charitable events, she has kept her appearances informal as the family settles into its new surroundings.
Meghan Markle Can Now Live Life On Her Own Terms In The UK.
¡dehoy! Agency / MEGAMeghan’s current status as private citizens gives her and Harry considerably more independence over their public and commercial activities.
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told Fox News Digital that Buckingham Palace now has “very little control” over what the Sussexes choose to do.
“They are private citizens and no longer working on behalf of the King, so Buckingham Palace isn’t approving Meghan’s interviews, appearances, Instagram posts or commercial projects,” she explained.
That marks a significant change from Meghan’s previous life in Britain, when palace protocols and communications staff played a role in shaping her public duties. She can now pursue her own career, make appearances and promote business ventures without requiring the monarchy’s approval.
