York Regional Police say Yuk-Ying “Anita” Mui, 46, was reported missing by her family on Aug. 9 and her white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 SUV was found abandoned in Scarborough – near Finch Ave. E. and Warden Ave. – later that day.

Ontario Provincial Police reported that burned human remains were located in the area of Avro Arrow Rd. and Hwy. 400 on Aug. 12 and the Office of the Chief Coroner revealed on Aug. 21 that the deceased had been positively identified as Mui.

“Through investigation, it was learned that suspects were in possession of property belonging to Mui,” police alleged in a statement released Wednesday. “As a result, three youths were charged with firearms and fraud-related offences.”

At a news conference last Thursday, homicide Det.-Sgt. Dave Gill said the three teenage boys, who can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were “persons of interest” in the investigation, but they had not been charged with murder.

“We believe at this time that Miss Mui’s credit cards were used by these (accused),” Gill said at the time, alleging the youths made purchases in the GTA after the woman’s disappearance.
