Ottawa police are crediting alert members of the public after an 18-year-old man was arrested Friday evening with a replica handgun and a knife in the Rideau Centre food court.

In a release on Saturday, June 13, police said “several people” called 911 to report the incident.

Police said Jad Ghanem of Ottawa was charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon and one count each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, causing a disturbance and breach of probation.
