Gage first announced the title of his book in January 2025 and, in an interview with The Blast, revealed he became "obsessed" with it after reflecting on his own journey.

"The message that I share throughout the book is that the little boy who was desperate for attention and love and validation became a man who was also a little bit desperate for love and validation and attention," he said. "I try to share how that manifested. And I try to put a different spin on our innate human need for attention, our desire to be seen, and show how you can do that in a positive way instead of only being seen for negative attention."

"I think that the way that we become knowledgeable is to have an open conversation about these things and to not live in fear and uncertainty," he said. "The way that we just bring awareness is that we step away from the taboo and from the stigma that we have wrapped around these topics."

While promoting his book, Gage is also hoping to spread more knowledge about PrEP—a once-daily pill that can prevent the transmission of HIV by 99%.

To share the information, Gage has partnered with Gilead to promote the company's HealthySexual campaign, which aims to empower people to take proactive steps to protect their health.

"Being safe sexually is very important to me and my self-care routine ... just as important as working out and eating well," Gage told The Blast. "I hope other people can feel empowered to learn more about PrEP and just destigmatize the topic of sexual health as a whole."

According to the CDC, only 36% of people who could benefit from PrEP are actually prescribed the medication, meaning millions, especially those in the LGBTQ+ community, are missing out on a safe and medically proven way to protect themselves from infection.

Gage acknowledged that some people may be apprehensive about discussing PrEP with their doctor and encouraged them to learn more about the medication by exploring other avenues.

"It might feel like a scary step, but you just have to take the leap. And if you are uncomfortable talking to your primary care doctor, you might consider telehealth options where you can talk to someone from the comfort of your home. Regardless, there is nothing to be ashamed of. The more we talk about sex and how to have safe sex the less taboo it becomes," Gage said.

Furthermore, Gage wants to encourage readers of his new book to make time to incorporate self-care into their routines, explaining that it's one area of his life that he ensures isn't neglected. So, what does Gage do in his own day-to-day life to stay centered?

"Physically, I have to just go on runs and do yoga and do stuff to get into my body and out of my head. I'm big on meditation. I go to therapy twice a week," he said before revealing the most important activity of them all.

"And I just also have to have fun," he explained. "If I'm not having fun and enjoying myself, then it's kind of like, what's it all for? So, everything in moderation. I still go out. I still have a personal life. I still go dancing. I actually went dancing this weekend until 4 AM and then I worked until 4 AM this week, too. It's all about balance."

What's Next For Gage?

In addition to the release of his book, Gage is preparing for a busy few months, with the second season of Amazon Prime's "Overcompensating" set to begin production and the debut of his Netflix film, "People We Meet on Vacation."

Regarding his work on the Netflix film, which is based on the bestselling book of the same name, Gage reflected on the pressure and privilege of portraying such a beloved character.

"Bringing these characters to life, I think there's a little bit of just wanting to do the book justice. There's such a fanbase behind it that you want to make sure that you're what people envision when they read the book. So, there's a little bit of fear about it. I grew up loving books and loving the book-to-film adaptations of stuff like, ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events,’ and that kind of stuff as a kid. So, to be a part of something like that is really rewarding and kind of cool," he said.
