By halftime of yesterday’s game between the two powerhouse programs, it looked as though Ohio State would leave the Lone Star State with the win.

By the third quarter, though, something shifted in Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns, who were down 23-3 by that point. In minutes, Arch Manning threw his team back into the game, defeating OSU 24-23 with seconds remaining.

Rowe, understandably, wanted to speak with Sarkisian about his headline-making comeback; however, he appeared uninterested in chatting. “Texas fight, hook ’em,” he said to Rowe before running off the field.

The awkward interaction quickly went viral and prompted a flurry of passionate responses from users who appeared disappointed with the Texas coach.

A third user defended Rowe, a longtime ESPN reporter, and praised her hard work covering a range of sports.

Crissy Froyd, another esteemed sports reporter, also commented on the matter, calling Sarkisian’s behavior “disrespectful.” She added, “Not okay at all.”

That wasn’t the only moment Sarkisian had with ESPN that caught viewers’ attention.

During halftime, cameras showed Sarkisian running through the stadium’s tunnel to get back to his team, leaving sideline reporter Laura Rutledge behind. To Sarkisian’s defense, though, Rutledge confirmed that the Texas coach decided to leave after continued technical difficulties.

“I do want to make sure we clear something up. (Sarkisian) did decline the interview at the half. He had waited a long time, been very patient with some technical issues that we had. He apologized to us. We should be apologizing to him, which we did,” she said, according to Fox News.

Before Texas took the lead, Ohio State dominated the first two halves. By the end of the fourth quarter, Texas had come back and was within six points.

According to the New York Post, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day could’ve gotten the ball back down by one with about a minute to a minute and a half, and a possible timeout. Instead, Day decided to let the defense play, ultimately burning time off the clock.

“We talked about it,” Day said. “We decided that we were going to play defense on second down and when we got the stop there, we said, ‘Alright, we’re going to take our chances, put the ball down for one yard see if we can stop them for two downs to win the game.”

Day’s loss to Texas could prove to be a crucial one, especially given how often his biggest losses have come against the sport’s biggest programs. Another high-profile defeat only adds to the pressure on Day, who has reached the point in his career where winning is the only option for Ohio State.

It appears he’s aware of the expectations, telling the media that their system will need to be reworked for future games. “I think today we played well for three quarters and then didn’t play well enough in the fourth quarter,” he said. “We stalled on some offensive drives, I felt we had them on the ropes and didn’t finish. We have to go back and figure out why that was. … This one hurts.”
