CANCELLED LAKE

I have a question for Doug Ford: Why can Egerton Ryerson, Sir John A. Macdonald and other Canadian icons be cancelled, but Lake Ontario cannot?

Ivan McWilliam

Ottawa

(It can’t be cancelled on this side of the border.)

LIMIT THE TERM

A municipal election is fast approaching. The candidates will soon be knocking on doors looking for your vote. For the most part, it’s a rigged game. Name recognition usually trumps all. It’s the reason I’ve never run, though asked several times. New blood with new ideas rarely gets an opportunity. The landscape can only be altered if voters made it clear they would only support those in favour of term limits for elected officials. I know it’s a pipe dream. But wouldn’t it be great?

Mike O’Hearn

Scarborough

(It would have a significant impact on the elections, but politicians are never going to vote themselves out of a job.)

CARNEY NOT A NEGOTIATING GURU

What all these elbows-up Liberal voters don’t seem to grasp is that the Mark Carney-imposed tariffs will be paid by them. These tariffs cause monetary increases on a vast amount of products entering Canada. Connect the dots and maybe they’ll realize that Carney isn’t the negotiating guru that he’s been busy portraying himself to be.

Tom C. Newell

Niagara Falls

(Canada absolutely needs to push back; however, we need to be mindful the U.S. can do more damage to our economy then we will ever do to theirs.)

MENACE ON THE ROADS

Wonder if it is possible to ask each municipal candidate in the GTA what they propose to do about all the e-bikes and e-scooters. How will they deal with those hazards?

Gord Mimms

Brampton

(They will do exactly what has happened so far — nothing.)

DUAL TRACKS WITH AMTRAK

I recommend Alto high-speed rail to co-ordinate with Amtrak. Amtrak wants to introduce Montreal to Boston, Toronto to Chicago (it used to exist and I had taken twice), but now they want to bring it back, Vancouver to L.A. and London, Ont., to Detroit. I am sure a combined operation will serve its purposes. Amtrak also wants to introduce several high-speed rails and, I say, why not have a joint project? Funding will come from both sides of the border. Worth the investment.

Anant Nagpur

Ottawa

(All options need exploring because this is going to be an eye-watering price tag.)
