NOT AN EXPERT
With death rates drastically declining due to the end of safe consumption in Ontario, can we please also put an end to the overextended use of the word expert? Because one has experience in a field and a definite political ideology, that does not make them an expert. More likely, they are only an activist. Being an expert should be a term used to define scientifically backed knowledge, not opinion. If people understood how misused this term is, they would not be listening to the chatterers.

(Good advice)

LANE REDUCTIONS
Toronto’s congestion is not just inevitable; it is often a failure of coordination. Why are University Ave., College/Bay, College/Yonge all reduced to one lane at the same time? Avenue Rd. at Balmoral is also crippled by development closures during evening rush hour. Construction is necessary, but overlapping closures on major arteries are not. The city must coordinate permits, restrict private lane closures during peak periods, publish timelines, and hold officials and developers accountable

(Yet another ongoing failure in Toronto. With new technology and new thinking, many of these coordination issues can be fixed)

CALLOUS DECISION
Recently I read the federal government was going to indefinitely exclude people suffering from mental illness from access to MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying). The restrictive MAID regulations have been drafted by callous, self-righteous people who are willing to turn a blind eye to the ongoing suffering of others. Numerous people, especially seniors, have fears about the future; namely, becoming physically or mentally incapacitated (partially or severely) and then being forced to live in a home or facility that strips away their dignity and limits personal choices. During the COVID pandemic, there were horrendous reports of under-staffing and neglect in countless care homes. MAID should be more readily available in Canada and be less encumbered with bureaucratic red tape.

(It is nothing short of impossible to strike a balance. But if it is offered to anyone who says they are, that may be temporary — but MAID is permanent)
