ERODING DEMOCRACY
Prime Minister Mark Carney won a minority government in 2025 because Canadians didn’t trust him with a majority. A year later, Carney secured an unelected majority government from floor crossers. These floor crossers were four Conservatives and one NDP MP. The bulk of their constituents did not vote Liberal, so these constituent’s votes were literally tossed away. That is not the meaning of democracy. Democracy is a “system of government where power is held by the people, who exercise it directly or through elected representatives.” This does not state floor crossers can nullify their constituents’ votes. Floor crossing MPs should not be able to vote on any bills or any legislation until the next election. Since his majority, Carney is passing legislation to have committee meetings Liberal dominant, having reporters and cameras kicked out of meetings, and trying to pressure the Supreme Court of Canada to eliminate the non-withstanding clause from the Constitution — this last one was initiated by my MP Sean Fraser. Carney and his cabinet think they are more important than they actually are — we have the power to stop this, we are 40 million while Carney and his cabinet are but a handful of small-minded Liberals. Wake up, Canadians.

(Like it or not, what happened is a reality in our system. If constituents of the floor crossers are upset with what they’ve done, then they know what they can do in the next election)
PAUSE THE PENSION
There should be some sort of indemnity clause in every federal MP’s employment contract. When an ‘honourable’ Member of Parliament decides to cross the floor and join another federal party, the clock on their pension service time should stop immediately. The clock can only be restarted if said member faces their riding constituency in another election. Only successful re-election can start the clock again and all lost time is reinstated retroactively to the time of crossing. If unsuccessful in re-election, see ya!

(Ironically, it would have to be Members of Parliament who would have to vote on such a mechanism and the likelihood of them doing that is none)
